Peace & Conflict Studies

I'm a spring admitted torn between attending Cal for Peace and Conflict Studies and attending UCLA for Global Studies.

How strong is the PACS department at Cal? As in, is it a strong major at the university in comparison to other majors or universities?

I'm also wondering just about some info on the program in general. I've looked at the website, I'm just asking for a little insider perspective.

Thank you!

Trying to bump this up in the hopes that someone will respond…?

I also would like as much input as possible because I’m making my decision by Saturday.

Thanks again!

Hi Mikaela,
Just so you know, your major within Letters and Sciences is completely undetermined until you come to Berkeley and actually declare it, so don’t feel like you are stuck with PACS.

I am a Political Economy major, which is sort of a sister major to PACS (both are in the International and Area Studies Department) but with more economics. I can tell you that I think PE is great here. My professors include a former Clinton administration advisor, one listed in the Economist as among the most influential recession economists in the world, and a former Secretary of Labor (Robert Reich). I would decide based on which University fits you better.

@mikaela1117 Can I ask what your stats were for Berkeley when you were admitted? I’ve applied for this major as well and patiently waiting for the results! Also, were you accepted out of high school or cc?
