Peace Corps

Anyone have anything interesting regards the Peace Corps, my DS11 is very keen and we are actively researching. Most concerned how it might play into a masters program after 27 months, or perhaps how it might parlay into a Govt entry level role. Anyone have any past experience or insight. Thanks

my impression is that many peace corps volunteers go to graduate school… and they can definitely apply while they are abroad. It’s very difficult to get entry level government jobs, but peace corps volunteers do get non-competitive eligibility, which can allow them to avoid the normal hiring process [big if] if there is someone that wants to hire the specific individual.

Soccerguy is right, and if I might add almost every PCV I personally know has gone to grad school, although it isn’t absolutely necessary to pursue a career in the foreign service (Many former PCV’s are FSOs) as a candidate for the Peace Corp now I know they offer to programs for volunteers seeking a master’s degree, both are done through partner universities and some award credit for the 27 months spent abroad. I’m fairly certain the second program is more of a scholarship than anything else.
