I'm an Economics major, trying for Cal and LA. I plan to apply this November.

A major part of my free time is devoted to attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings throughout LA. I am a sponsor and have been involved for almost one year. Do you think this should be included in my ECs?

I don't want to give Admissions the impression that I am an alcoholic, which I'm not.

Thanks,
BanditGirl

Yes just be sure to explain your role in the organization and that you are not someone being treated ;)

First off, I hope you go to Cal. Secondly, AA is a great EC (not like the typical PTK, AGS, random volunteering etc etc). In any case, you should definitely include this in your EC list. You might even want to talk about this in one of your personal statements.

Also, if you are a past alcoholic (hypothetically speaking of course), I don't think the UCs would have a problem if you discussed it in your personal statements. If anything, it shows resilence and determination. For one of my PSs I talked about how I ****ed up in high school.

Best. Cardinal :)
