Peddie and Lawrenceville

This looks like a ■■■■■ or someone’s multiple account with 2 posts since Oct 2009, lol. :D

The comparison is a little unfair because Peddie is not L’ville and L’ville is not Peddie. The schools are quite different in feel, size, philosophy, and the type of student who is attracted to each. I have relatives who are now at or have attended each. Academically, I think the workload and teacher expectations are on par, but let’s be honest, L’ville is harder to get in and definitely has better college stats. IMO, L’ville has much better college admissions because of the type of student attracted to L’ville (and who get in), as well as some historic ties. But overally I don’t believe the experience at L’ville is not better academically for a motivated student. They both = great education. BTW, also from my perspective (and not to offend anyone), for a student/parent considering both, be honest about works better for you: to be a big fish in a small, close knit pond, or to be a smaller fish in a fierce, awesome sea. Both have their place for the right students.

regardless whether ■■■■■■■■ or not, I will admit that hgmooreiii brings up a valid point. Peddie was about to go bankrupt until it received its gift, which I believe is the largest single donation a private school has ever received (I may be wrong on this).

“Annenberg in June announced that his family foundation would make gifts of… $100 million to the Peddie School”
… WOW (really old news, but… 100 million? asfsdfhg!)

Yea, it was the largest donation a private school has received until someone donated a fortune to…I think Choate or Kent (not sure) a few years ago. However, that $100 million is all for FA. When Annenberg donated it, he said he wanted it to be used so that kids who normally wouldn’t get the chance could attend Peddie like he did.

Peddie is considered pretty new to the top prep school scene because before this gift, we’d already been bankrupt twice and were considered a little school in New Jersey that was completely overshadowed by Lawrenceville. But now, we’re probably the fastest growing prep school on the East Coast, and we’re definitely catching up to the others in terms of reputation.

Fastest growing? What does that mean and is that really a useful factoid–Subway is the fastest growing chain and drinkable yogurt the fastest growing food, but these are not a good basis for choosing lunch. Peddie’s large endowment is significant for what they’ve done to the campus (amazing science center for example) and apparently, for fin aid. They also have made great strides to attract more diverse student body, although in my view, they’ve done a great job with international students, less so attracting outside kids the NY/NJ/PAtri-state area. There lies another important dif. with L’ville. L’ville is a school with more history and commitment to boarders. Peddie is about 35-40% day students and on many levels still operates and caters to day students.

But that’s one of the best parts of Peddie to me. A lot of schools seem to look down on day students, but at Peddie, they’re just regular students like the boarders. I’m a day student because it doesn’t make sense for me to pay to live down the block when I already have ashorter commute to my first class than some boarders do from their dorms. That being said, boarders are still an important part of Peddie; no one, day or boarding student, is treated better than the other.

What I meant by fastest-growing is that we are steadily attracting a larger applicant pool and gaining a more prestigious reputation as one of the best schools in the nation. A recent article in the alumni magazine listed the schools most other applicants to Peddie also applied to in the nineties (Blair, Hun, Hill, Lville, other NJ area schools) and then the schools applicants also applied to this year (Choate, Andover, Hotchkiss, Lville, all those big-namers).

hey im at lville and if you have any questions, feel free to pm me :)

Can anybody give any info on Peddie’s campus [look-wise]

well im applying for both of these schools and (im not going to be bias or side with a school) im js ganna state the facts.

peddie is still considered new, but i agree with facbrat. as time goes on peddie will be considered a very presitigeous school and the rep might even change. who knows someday it might even be better then lville? this is js my opinion but i think financial aids and scholorships motivate peddie students more to try better. for example highly gifted magnet students tend to get full paid scholarships and ALSO tend to pick schools that are open to scholarship students. i kno some people like theese and none of them has evr chosen lville (evn tho some of them chose choate)

but then again lville has an amazing, well respected academic and athletic program. i agree that it mite even be better than peddie but i cant be sure. it is also true that lville has better acceptances to good colleges and are much more well known bcuz of their A. rich kids with good relationships or B. their supersmart students. lville also has a better campus in my opinion from pictures. and its like the mini-harvard because of their well known rep, old school, and connections.
once again im not trying to bias and im not siding with a school, im js puttin all the bonuses of BOTH of theese school and honestly if i did get accepted to both of thesse schools i wudnt kno wich one to pick :/

I’m applying 2 both Peddie and L’ville this fall. Can anyone tell me what would make me have a better chance of getting in?
