Peddie, Blair, Hill, Middlesex

I am an international student who applied to Peddie, The Hill, Blair and Middlesex. I have been accepted to attend Peddie for the school year of 2016-17, but am still currently on waitlist for all the other schools. I have a few questions that I hope could be answered by one of the nice fellows on this website:

  1. What are some of the pros and cons of all the schools of which I’ve stated above (acdemics, location, environment, everything a boarding school student might consider). If possible, provide a definite ranking of these schools, as well.
  2. What are some of the things I can possibly do to get off the waitlist? Many have suggested I should write an email to the schools, re-emphasizing my interest in the school, what I can contribute, but the chances of getting off the waitlist is still quite low.

Hi- You know that schools really try and maximize their yield so you may have been WLed at schools because they weren’t convinced you were going to come - or couldn’t gauge how interested you really were. Peddie is certainly more selective than a few of the schools that WLed you and if you’ve visited, you’ve seen how strong the facilities are. Do you prefer other schools? If so, that’s another issue but don’t discount Peddie because they were the one that offered you a spot…give them credit for recognizing your strengths. What are your real concerns - if you like Peddie (and it is among the very best boarding schools in the country) be happy with that opportunity. If you really preferred another school - let them know. A letter does help - but don’t try and get more acceptances because you’ll feel better, only do it if you would truly prefer one of these over Peddie. Make sense?
