Peddie

Okay...I know i have a bias because it's my top school choice right now, but I just want to know why people on this thread cast aside Peddie as a) a safety school b) completely insignificant (would choose any school over it)

(I know that some of you like ylaw had okay reasons like the campus tour and academic classes which I can completely understand so I'm not talking about you! Everyone can dislike a school, they just need valid reasons.)

Anyway, it might be because it's not in New England, but Lawrenceville isn't either...in fact the schools are super close to each other. But I think people are getting the mentality "Well, if I don't get into Exover, there's always Peddie!" Not a safe assumption. 22% admission rate anyone?

Alright, done ranting. I know this doesn't apply to everyone. And not even to "certain people". It's just kind of the general vibe of the board. I suppose it all comes back to the whole "safety school" and "underrated school" conversation we had last week.
Thanks!

as you pointed out, it’s not in NE. most of the discussion here is about schools in NE; peddie and lville are formidable schools but they’re not talked about that much here, as are St Andrews & Thacher & Cate, which are all fantastic schools-- but not in NE

also, peddie has a pretty low average SSAT, which might give off a bad “first impression” by only looking at stats (i fell into this trap). but yeah, eventually the 22% acceptance kind of proves that it’s a very competitive school. i think it just means that peddie probably doesn’t care about the SSAT as much as some other schools, they must put more emphasis on other parts of the application.

so in summary, why i think people cast it aside:
a) out of their preferred geographic location
b) low average SSAT

and hahah ignore the whole safety thing. people are using hotchkiss as their safety, too. i mean, come on…

Personally, I really wanted to look into Peddie (along with lville, blair, and mercersburg) but I was restricted to schools within a three hour radius of my house, which meant exclusively new england schools.

my friend has a friend who goes to peddie. current freshman. she doesnt like it. she said all the girls are fake, competitive b****** who try to bring each other down so they can do better (grades). shes switching to public high school next year. my mom was also disappointed with how unprofessional their office was. they never sent us anything, or they sent it to us waaay late. i brushed it off because i was still for peddie at the time. i was SOOO excited for my tour/interview and it was a huge disappointment. i figured lawrenceville was so competitive, and peddie was more realistic. they also have no on campus security. many other schools have security cars driving around or security guards at the gates so students cant sneak out, and sketchy people cant sneak in. when we found out they didnt have that, we were kind of turned off. it was just not a positive experience for my family, but most people dont talk about lawrenceville or peddie or blair because theyre in NJ. and a large majority of potential applicants and schools are in New England. NJ was one of the middle colonies.

So it is definitely location - I forget that NJ is like 4 hours away from MA. Oops. And sorry I wrote this early in the morning when I was super mad we didn’t have a snow day (lame excuse I know…). I just read my post again and nothing I said really made any sense anyway.

People think Hotchkiss as a safety? O.o

@beatle, is Peddie still your 1st choice? Of all the NJ BSs I`ve asked about, Blair had the most positive feedback. Whatever thats worth.

Yeah I was interested into Blair, but it just didn’t seem to have the right fit and feel for me. Really nice school though. Should def be looked into if you live in the Jersey area
