how much synthesis do you think there will be on this? all the synthesis in the practice exams seems really difficult!

yeah, I remember he said to save those for the very end to study… I think there’ll be 2 at most…

when’d he say that? so he won’t emphasize them?

i hate those so ****ing much…i just never know where to start

from looking at the 06 and 07 finals, it is one full problem (15-20pts) out of the 150 for the “midterm” portion of the final

You should have the hang of it after you finish the last problem set. I had a really hard time figuring out the first handful too, but then you just get the hang of it and it eventually becomes fairly routine and fast. I think the biggest part is you need to be really familiar with all the reactions you have to memorize (hydroboration, peroxidation, epoxidation, ozonolysis, etc) and be able to recall them quickly to discern which one to choose.

there are so many in this set because he didn’t assign many in previous ones. He seemed to be rushing everything at the end so i guess we were behind and couldn’t do most of them until after the last lecture.

synthesis is tough, I doubt they’ll be worth more than 10-15 points…i hated predict the product for midterm 2 but now they’re easier than arrow pushing!
