I'm just curious if anyone else did this. Me and another guy from my same school just swapped evals and did them for each other. I was wodering if this was odd; two applicants filling it out for each other, or if others did that. Thanks

We were going to do that!
Actually, I wrote one for a friend (and she's an applicant too), and she was supposed to write me one. But another friend of mine (who isn't applying) got jealous and he ended up writing it.

SO basically, two dartmouth applicants with one of them writing for the other one. I thought my peer rec was cute.

um...if you read "A is for Admission", u'd know that Dartmouth sometimes actually checks if the recommender is an applicant.

Is that not allowed?

No, it's completely allowed. The only reason why they check sometimes is if the peer recommendation is really bad or vindictive (to see if the recommender is sabotaging their friend... it happens!)

What happens if it is really vindictive?

Well.... if the recommender is an applicant, then they'll be less likely to regard it as valid. Also, the recommender might go down a notch or two on the admissions scale. But if the recommender isn't an applicant, then it actually might hurt the applicant. I read in some college book (I forget which one now... maybe A is for Admission) where the only time an applicant got rejected because of the peer recommendation was because it was truly scathing. It said stuff like "this applicant is intelligent but incredibly arrogant and smug... he is not a nice person... he doesn't even know who his true friends are, as you can tell from this recommendation..."

Yup, that was A is for Admission

did you guys actually read your peer recs?

btw does it have to be a student from your school? Mine wasn't...

i didnt read mine. purrli, it does not need to be someone from your school

that's good :). I had my aunt write it, since she was accepted with a likely letter at dartmouth 2 years ago and can write a very personalized letter.

Sounds like someone sure picked the wrong person to write his/her recommendation.
