I have heard mixed things about sending in a peer recommendation with an application, and I was curious as to the opinions of people on CC. If a college doesn’t require a peer rec, but explicitly lists it as an option in the “Additional Rec” section of the common app, what would be the response? Does it matter what age the peer is (for example, if they are one year older and already at college, would that be better than a high school seniors)?
Just looking for feedback/discussion. Not decided on whether I’m going to submit a peer rec to my schools.
@yonceonhismouth - IMHO - recommendations are valued if they are from people whom you have worked with, done research with, etc - basically people who are reliable (such as teachers, professors etc), who can vouch for your abilities. I have not heard of peer recommendations, so I am unable to comment on that.
Only Dartmouth and I believe one other school specifically asks for peer recs. What does that tell you? Readers have a finite number of minutes to read your file. They generally don’t want it watered down by the ruminations of another 17-18 year old.
