Pell Grant, FAFSA said yes, School says no

Hello all,
I recently completed my FAFSA paperwork and the FAFSA website stated I was eligible for the full amount of loans and the full amount of the Pell Grant. However, much to my disappointment once I went back to the financial aid office at my school they stated I was only eligible for the loans and not the Pell Grant. When I questioned them about this the “loan officer” (full time employee, not work study) blew me off and wouldn’t give me a reason why. Has anybody had any experience with this? Is it customary for schools to not give Pell Grants after the FAFSA websites says that I am eligible?

Thanks for your time and help,
Jonathan

I just saw this. My first question is: Did you have to send tax forms to your school? If so, the school may have made changes based on your tax forms. If not, and if you didn’t have to send them any additional information … you just filed the FAFSA … it seems like there may be a problem. In that case, you should call again & ask what the school has as your EFC. If it differs from the EFC you see when you log into your FAFSA, ask them what changes they made to arrive at the new EFC. They absolutely should tell you that. Once you find out, post here or PM me & I will advise.
