Pell Grant Help

I'm scheduled to start classes at a CC (Orange Coast) in California this Fall. The problem is that I was selected for Verification, but have been unable to get my parents' tax transcript from the IRS, which is needed to finish the process. My parents filed their taxes in January, along with the FAFSA, & I've ordered the Tax Transcript online 7 weeks ago. To make matters worse, I was contacted by my CC that my financial aid application had been processed & have received the Board of Governors Waiver Fee but I'm still looking at having to pay for additional costs like books & supplies. Does this mean I won't be able to get a Pell Grant, even though I know I qualified for one?

Is this a ■■■■■? Come on, no way a rich guy with a fancy phone like that qualifies for the Pell Grant… do you happen to drive a BMW?

I’m looking for serious advice.

You need to contact the IRS and find out what happened with the transcript.

No Pell Grant aid will be disbursed until your eligibility has been verified.

Why did you have to order a transcript? You should have been able to use the IRS retrieval tool on the FAFSA application.

I understand & will contact my local IRS office.

I don’t know why, but my college asked specifically for a copy of my parents’ tax return transcript.

Probably because you didn’t use the IRS retrieval. That is just as good as a transcript and preferred by most, if not all, colleges. You should access your FAFSA application and choose the “make corrections” option and go to the financial section and see if you can use the retrieval. If successful, you should contact the college and see if that is acceptable. If you don’t know how to do this see the following link.

KDog, the IRS retrieval tool simply did not work for many of us this year. Better luck next year, I hope.

OP, have a parent call the IRS and speak to a person. Ask them to fax you a transcript. They will tell you it takes 24 hours, but it usually takes a lot less.

If you don’t have a fax but live near an IRS office, have a parent go to the office. They can print out a transcript for you on the spot.

Thanks, I’ll try that, It’s my first time filling out the FAFSA, so I’m bound to make mistakes.

Understandable but the OP never indicated they tried using the retrieval and it is a LOT faster than waiting for a transcript if successful. ;)

I was planning on going to my local IRS Office tomorrow, so thanks for the reinforcement.

Are you taking your parent with you? I doubt the IRS will give you your parents’ transcript. Make sure you don’t waste the trip …

Yeah I am I’m taking my father, I know that they’d never hand me such information no matter who I am.
