Pell Grant

I am 25 male and am currently living in Arizona. I am carrying a part-time job working at the mini-mart gas station. Part-time meaning 20 hours a week making $7.00 and hour. I would like to know an answer to a very secretly kept question that everyone seems to be hiding. Its a pell grant question. Does anyone know what the limit is on working and recieving a pell grant? Like working 20 hours a week and making $7.00 an hour, will I lose my pell grant that I am currently on or will it be reduced in some way. Nobody wants to give me a figure on how much I can make and how many hours I need to stay between. How much money can I make a year, before they dump my pell grant. I am trying to go to school full-time and work part-time. Full-time meaning 12 credit hours. I am considered an independent person, single, no child support and am living with my parents.

Here is the FAFSA formula for income/assets which is used in determining Pell Grant income (I think) I will look for the Pell table, I had that somewhere on my computer!

Maybe the moderators could post this FAFSA EFC and the Pell table with a sticky so that future searchers can easily find it.

Here is a link to a page with Pell info, you can get the actual table showing all details

just my experience, I made about 30,000 last year and got around 4,000 for my pell grant...hope that helps.

Ok thanks for the details. The link didn't really help out too much. I couldn't find anything on what I was looking for. Big site, maybe I need to dig a bit deeper I guess. Thanks for the link though. Any help is appreciated. So if I were to go to school full-time and work part-time making $7.00 and hour. I should be ok. Am I supposed to fill out the FAFSA form or what, on that link you gave me.

I think so. you would still be considered pretty low income.

Ok, thanks alot. I will keep everyone posted and let you know if it affects me or not.

corinnas54, you were saying that you made around $30,000 last year and was able to get a $4,000 pell grant. Are you single/married? Do you have any kids?
Are you on any type of disability? etc... tell me a little bit about yourself.

Yes I have one child, and I am single. I am sure that helped a little, but I still think that if you worked even 25 hours a week, that is only around 9,000 a year and you would be fine. Seriously that is just my opinion, I am not sure how you can find out for sure though. But I will tell you this, my boyfriend made more than me, and got the same amount.

Powernite,
I feel I should apoligize for my input about the pell grants as I realized I was incorrect. After going over my paperwork I realized that although I did make that amount of money, Fafsa did not count it as income because it was tax free(I was in Iraq last year) so it really came down to my income being around 6 or 7 thousand. I still think if you only worked part time for 7 an hour you would get a decent pell grant. Sorry about the misinformation.
