Pen vs Pencil

I don’t like using pens at all, unless I know I wont ever look back at it. Stick with mechanical pencils, lasts longer than regular pencils which tend to dull away quick, especially in an english class that requires lots of writing.

I can’t use pens at all. I always make writing/spelling/math mistakes so I hate scribbling it out. My english finals are horrible to read. I would rather read Einstein’s notes rather than my essay. Many pens also bleed through notebook paper which makes writing on the other side very annoying. The only time I use pen is when I’m required to.

I don’t understand how pen is easier to read. Your handwriting is the same… Or do some people write very lightly with pencil? However I do understand that many people like the feel of pen.

0.7 mm Mechanical pencil ftw!

You do know there are multiple sizes of lead for mechanical pencils, right…?

I use .9mm lead mechanical pencils. I hate breaking and clicking out lead constantly.

Pen (preferably a good gel pen like a Uni-Ball 207) for notes.

Pencil for homework and exams.

(…though I have had professors that INSIST on using a pen for exams! I guess that’s supposed to make cheating attempts more obvious.)

Pens, otherwise it gets all smudgy and whatnot.

I prefer a laptop for every task. It’s a lot faster to type than write for me at least.

I tend to use a mechanical pencil. I’m not completely sure why, because I see all the benefits to using pens, but I do like being able to erase.
Also, I find it’s easier to look at pencil writing when I’m looking back on my notes. Ink seems more harsh.

Fun pen/pencil story: I was taking my history midterm last semester with a mechanical pencil and ran out of lead. I then moved on to my regular pencil, which broke multiple times over the course of my essay, until my pencil sharpener just stopped sharpening. I finally just pulled out a pen to finish the last paragraph and a half or so.
Yet somehow I still remained loyal to pencils. I also made sure to always have extra lead in my pencil.

I absolutely despise using pencils when taking notes. I’ve only used them in math and science courses, or when it is required (again, required) for me to use one during an exam. Even in math and science courses, I’ve only used pencils when I’m taking an exam or when I’m in a lab course. I definitely take my notes in pen. I love how smooth my writing looks when I use a pen. I hate having to constantly push out lead when using a pencil and/or having to replace the lead.

Why all the pencil hate? There is nothing better than a newly sharpened pencil, in my opinion. Ticonderoga or bust.

Mechanical pencils are all right, and I use them if I find a lost one, but I can’t bring myself to buy them. I just know that I’ll lose them straightaway.

U guys are high

Pencils

Why would I do math/physics/chem etc. In pen?

I agree cristiline, Ticonderoga are by far the best pencils. But, all pencils just get all smudgy on me.

I only use pens for taking notes.

It looks more official, darker, bolder, and neater. Using pen is also easier if you want to highlight something since the marker might smudge a pencil’s marks. Plus, when I take notes in pencil and close the notebook, a day later the pencil might smudge onto the back of the previous page and that annoys meee. I don’t like messes!

Then again, some pens’ inks are too wet or leak a bit more than it should and that bothers me too which leads to smudging on my hands and the pages :expressionless: Oh well, nothing’s perfect.

The only time I’ll ever use pencils are for worksheets, lab packets, tests, and classwork. Basically, everything but my notes!

EDIT: And by pencils, I mean mechanical pencils … Regular pencils get dull fast.

Interesting. I tend to get pen smears on my hand all the time. Maybe I’m just using crappy pens.

None of my pens smudge, but I guess there are tons of different kinds of pens out there

usually pens. pencils for tests and other things where life just becomes easier ot have a pencil

“Le Pen” felt tip pens, they are amazing!

And when needed, Ticonderoga Black pencils, or a nice mechanical one.

Pilot G2 Pen with Montblanc refill. You have to file the end of the plastic on the refill to get it to fit, but it works great and you dont have to worry about loosing (or even buying) a $300+ Montblanc.

Use one for a week and you will never be able to write with anything else.

I love both, but I prefer pencils because it annoys me when I can see ink through the other side of a sheet of paper. :/

Pens for everything. Except for tests. Not only pens, fountain pens. I can’t use regular pens. I find most of them tiring and boring to use.

When you get used to fountain pens, you stop making mistakes. Seriously.

Quill and ink bottle only
