I got a 770 on the math 2 subject test but I’m looking at top schools (ivy league, MIT, JHU, etc) and I know many kids get an 800. I know I’m better at math and should easily do better than 770, but since I already took it will there be a penalty for needing two tries to get an 800?
There is absolutely nothing to gain from repeating a 770. Having an 800 is not going to make any difference. Focus on writing great essays instead.
@anitram are you sure? 770 is only 69th percentile and I’ll be competing with thousands of kids with 800s
Don’t focus on percentiles. The percentiles for most Subject Tests are depressed because few colleges require/request them. The ones that do are generally the elite ones with low admissions rates anyway. As a result, the students who sit for these exams are very self selecting. No AO is going to be sitting on the floor crossreferencing scores vs. percentiles IMO. In any event, IMO, if you get rejected for a 770, I doubt that you will get accepted with an 800.
Yes I am sure. If you don’t believe me, I highly recommend watching the video “perspective of admission to top US Colleges by MIT’s former Admissions Officer”.
Okay. Thanks for all the help
Elsewhere, you mentioned that you have an ACT35. Congrats! Submit that. You’ll be fine. Retaking a bunch of exams will impress no one.
