ee_stu, i was askign malishka if it changed back congrats the second time she reported a change...

I was not asking malishka if it was ok, why would i do that...

ee_stu, i was askign malishka if it changed back congrats the second time she reported a change...

I was not asking malishka if it was ok, why would i do that...

My bad. So how many times have you made changes?

it's cool. This is the second time i am doing this....

I believe Malishka did it twice as well. I am not sure...

it hasnt changed to congrats yet,
i only reported it like 5 days ago......and last time they send me a postcard

plus i might not even go.... financial reasons, it doesnt seem plausible for me to go.

Malishka, how much loan would you have to borrow? If it's subsidized loan, it's worth borrowing to finance college.

not much, i get full pell grant, cal grant A and B, university grant, and blah blah,

i havent seen the official financial aid package yet, and my worry is about housing and so forth, their estimates are highly unrealistic for housing.

21k a year, for housing, tuition and books.

tuition is 6500, plus books for the year will be about 1500, thats a totall of 8k, leaving me 13k for the year, to make rent and bills, rent alone in UCLA area is like 900 a month.

edit: out of the 13k atleast 5500 will be loans, (the max i can take out), i dont know if they will make my parents take out loans since my mom is on SSI, i dont know if they consider that or not.

Don't let money stop you from dreams. I know its easier said than done, but it'll be much better for you in the end.

I applied as an off-campus student and my unofficial estimate is $21k too. I have $2k work study and $6,755 in loans (it doesn't which loans yet). The rest is covered with grants.

If you don't get you UCLA housing, you should rent out a room from someone or find a roommate. A studio or 1 BR apt will definitely cost a lot for one person.

ee_stu, mine says the same thing for now, in terms of the laon amount and the work study.........but who knows what the official one will be like.

The official one might even be better: Science and engineering majors who maintain a 3.0 gpa and were eligible for Pell Grant can get up to $4k through the national SMART grant. I got the max amount in UCB's package so I'm hoping UCLA will give me the same upon inspection of my transcripts. Maintaing a 3.0 gpa at UCLA might be a different story though...

i am not one of those majors anyways.

my concern is about affording life while living alone. i dont want to share a room with someone. it creeps me out.

If you're spending $900 a month for off-camopus housing, then you can request more housing aid using this form:

The estimated $21k used a standard budget where they estimated rent to be $708 per month.

UCSD has other separate budget add-in forms for transportation, medical, etc. I can't seem to find similar forms at UCLA's website but it's definitely something to look into.

i didnt know they had forms like that.

That is actually very helpful.

so they will increase to 858 a month at most...... hmm and 50 bucks i come up on my own.

The only reason i said 900 is b/c that seems to be the cheapest studio i could get in that area.

on top of financial aid, my grandparents saved up enough to give me 400 a month, and the rest i would have to make up by working.

So, i think i would be ok? b/c i really have to make it only until spring, then the bf should move and with his combined income i would be cool.

ee_stu, that form made me happy. YAAYA!

Malishka31, please come to UCLA! Don't be a traitor / stranger to us bruins!

ee_stu: where did you decide to go?

Man, on June 1st I was swinging from UCSD to UCLA to UCB...twice, lol. Then at 11:30pm, I submitted my SIR to UCLA. :) All for the best I hope. I have also submitted my housing app on June 1st but I guess that makes me last on the housing offer list? I might room with a fellow CC'er if he can find a suitable place during summer before I hear back from UCLA. He's an engineering major too so that's pretty cool.

Which orientation session are you going to Citan? I'm signing up for 203.

ee_stu: haha nice...hope to see you in class....Im thinkin of taking M16 and EE 2...im up for 201...good luck. do you have a facebook?

Hey, I think you're gonna register for class sooner than me. Let me know which class and section you sign up for. Maybe we can study and help each other out. I don't know anyone at UCLA.

Does the facebook require photos? Because I don't have any, but I think I need to take a passport photo soon for the housing app right?

yea, I don't know anyone either I will tell you the classes after I come from orientation...for the EE classes we don't have many choices...I wanted to take CS 32 and get it over with but they are not offering for fall...the only two classes are EE 2 and EE M16A which I need are being offered in fall. I still have to find out what GE classes I need but I will only know about it after orientation

nah no photos required
