Pending i485, Can i get FAFSA?

You need to go spend some time with your family’s immigration lawyer and find out about the advance parole business. Frankly, it makes no sense to me that you would need to keep traveling in and out of the country to maintain your status and your documents in order.

Your father also should be asking what is going on with his green card. He has his advance parole. When will he have the green card? If it is delayed, why is it delayed?

Well, there is a long backlog for the EB(Employment based) immigration. I know some people in highly skilled category waiting for more than 10 years. No kidding. Every year, our family spends $3000 including the lawyer fees on renewing the EAD and Advance Parole. Till now, we spent nearly $40,000+ on the immigration expenses alone. I am not kidding. So, where is the money for college? All the time the focus is on the 11 million undocumented aliens, but no one wants to talks about the tax paying legal immigrants whose numbers are miniscule when compared.
We lived in Australia when I was a child, and there we got the permanent resident card in 3 months. But we had to see to America. Despite all this wait, my family never regrets coming here. This is a beautiful country. I only wish the wait will soon be over.

Your family should save for your college.

Hi, I know this is an old thread… But the thing is I am in a similar position… My mom is a US Citizen and I have a pending i485 (Adjustment of Status) with USCIS. I do have an advance parole (travel document). What is your guys’ experience??? At what point are schools gonna ask me for documents?? Are they even looking at my FAFSA if SAR says USCIS wasnt able to verify my status???

This thread is old, and you already started your own thread!
