Penn #11... again! (THES rankings)

And beats Princeton... again!! by one spot.. cool.

QS Top Universities: Top 100 universities in the THE - QS World University Rankings 2007

The school is still underrated in my opinion.

There's already a thread on this:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/577876-penn-princeton-times-higher-ed-ranking.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/577876-penn-princeton-times-higher-ed-ranking.html</a></p>

Well Penn is better than Princeton if you're on a professional track. Princeton is pretty much just an LAC with really good grad programs.

Penn has been getting the short end of the stick and has been trailing behind Columbia for far too long.

Penn really needs to get out of Penn State's shadow and really get its name out there, not just to the people in the know.

I agree, but I'll ignore these rankings as there is no way Stanford objectively is 17 and Berkeley is 36. As a overall ranking of universities, this is how I see it (of course there are schools missing here).

Harvard=Stanford>Penn=Columbia=Yale>Princeton

After Harvard and Stanford I think Penn is safely in that next tier of universities for its strength in grad programs, it's elite professional schools, resources and research output.

Chi-town. how I wish people would see it your way. I have been ranting and raving about Penn for a long time since visiting yet my calls fall on deaf ears to the HYP crowd. Apparently, Penn is TOO professionally oriented to be considered elite on the lines of HYP.

I also think that the reason why Penn lags behind Columbia all of the time is because of location. If Columbia were not in NYC, then Penn would really have the advantage.

Penn is to pre-professional? Maybe

Harvard is too grad focused? Maybe

Princeton is too elitist? Maybe

Columbia's location is the greatest? Maybe

None of that really matters; they're just quirks in the student body. Academically, Penn is clearly behind only those two schools I mentioned earlier. Just because students have a professional bent does not mean they are any less intelligent or that they're school is not as good academically. That's an attack on the students, not the school, and people should be able to distinguish between those two different subjects.

its important to remember that each of these schools is suited for a different type of student and a different career path. all schools have their strengths and weaknesses. penn just happens to be INCREDIBLE!!

"Princeton is pretty much just an LAC with really good grad programs."

LMAO. Not many people other than Penn students would say Penn is better than Princeton.

That's why we go to Penn... and NOT Princeton =) and a majority of the people I know who applied to both schools had that option, including me.

"Princeton is pretty much just an LAC with really good grad programs."

While that statement may sound harsh, it is true that Princeton just doesn't have the depth of studies that peer schools (Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Yale, Penn) can offer. They have the grad programs and then other professional schools. Princeton is very good at what it does, but it doesn't do nearly as much in those other areas.
