impboy89 and all, yes positive thinking and a unwavering determination is so important. I recently read a post from someone who applied to Notre Dame and was rejected, but now is graduating with honors. So, no matter what the decisions are on 3/29, if a particular school is really what you want, don't give up.

Which app did you all apply with? I should have applied with the Penn app... because my common app essay wasn't that great. I did enjoy writing the supplement essay though!

Common App + Supplement + M&T Extra essay.

I absolutely loved my Page 217 essay. Easily the best I've written for all my colleges. :)

yea i used the penn app. i also loved my 217 essay :) also the best i wrote for any of my colleges lol. i actually shortened it a bit and turned it in as my commonapp essay and i used it for columbia and UC berkely/UCLA

I thought of doing that, but it was too specific and tailored to Penn to work anywhere else.

In case you're wondering, it was a page about me sitting beneath a tree at Penn, writing my autobiography, in which the 217th page is how, as a college applicant, I was brave/foolhardy enough to imagine that I would be writing my autobiography while at Penn, and hence wrote my 217th page essay about the aforementioned phenomenon.

:D

I kid you not. Kind of an infinite loop in an essay. :)

Had to read that twice to understand it, lol. That's an interesting idea!

I wrote about confronting my fear of riding rollercoasters. Not as interesting as yours! ;) I wish I had used it as my common app essay, but it was too late by then.

I used the common app, plus supplements.

My favorite essay by far was the page 217 one. I took a different approach to it, and instead of having page 217 in the future, I pretended that I had turned in my autobiography at age 17, so page 217 would have been a few months ago. I wrote about this time at my first horse show when I was really nervous but still wanted to win, ended up getting eliminated from my first class, but then came back and won most of the rest of them.

We'll see what they think of it :)

heh i wrote about a certain experience i had while snowboarding in lake tahoe, and how it absolutely changed my life. not really an "interesting" or unique "idea", but i thought that the words that came out of it conveyed a powerful statement with them, and thats what i was really aiming to do :)

impboy89

Haha, Yeah it was very unorthodox. As were most of my essays.

I pmed you some quotes from my essay.

The best part is I don't even like coffee.

I wrote about clearing a desk , a bit metaphorical, a bit lateral, but I liked it :)

i opted not to do the pg 217 essay but instead the one about first experiences/taking a risk

though my fave essay was by far my common app one, which I wrote after I was inspired by the lady at the Penn info session (btw.. I went on the last day of tours, which was right before xmas vaca)
my whole essay was an allegory and it was about my pointe shoes... and idk.. I just loved the weird phrases I used and metaphores.. haha.. prob. one of my best works. :)

i also wrote the risk essay, but i liked my "why penn" essay

i wish penn put a greater emphasis on essays instead of grades. eff.

^Me tooooooo.

just 3 more days!!!! (actually 2 not including today since today is almost over!!!)
(sorry for all the !!!!, i'm just really nervous and excited)

2 days, 21 hours!!!

I was actually really calm like impboy...
but now I'm beginning to get nervous, and I don't want to because the last decision that I got REALLY REALLY nervous about turned out badly... :(

... just gotta calm myself downn

oh hon don't worry. You already got into Cornell - which is amazing!!! You applied to Stanford EA right? Well **** that. Each college is different, and I trust that Penn will have better sense! <3

lol thanks venus!!
I really do hope we all get in...
and I love the week of admissions cause everyone becomes so supportive of each other and we all kind of bond over this big moment...
but then of course decisions come and we lose friendships that could've been if we were all to go to the same place next year.
I hope this doesn't happen to me again the second time.
Everyone here's been amazing!!

ill say to you all the same thing i said to venus during the freak attack thing with UNC -- take a deep breath, and let it all go ;) you guys are definately at the top of each pile of applicants with the best stats and the best chances of admittance to penn, because as i said in the other thread, this is CC, and you are all the best of the best. takeme2cali, there is absolutely no need to worry! if you think positive, good things will happen (and vice versa..), so need i tell you what to do? :) just keep your faith guys, confidence in yourself can go a long way to staying happy through life, and i have definately learned that over the past few weeks.

on a side note, its really funny watching kids at my school start to freak out, but me, im fine. it works guys, this whole be positive and confident thing. you will go where you want in the end, so just think about that. im wishing you all gluck now, and i will continue to do so until i leave for the airport on thursday afternoon :) gluck woowooo applicants of 2011!!!!
