Penn 2014 RD Thread

When you log in to the MyPenn portal, I noticed it says my name, the school to which I have applied, regular decision process, and then non-financial aid candidate. This strikes me as really odd for a need blind school to say that. Does anyone else, either with or without an application for financial aid, see their finaid status listed?

mine says that too

It says I’m a “Financial Aid Candidate”.

does anyone know what’s happening with this interview business? I thought you only got an interview if you submitted by 12/15, and people seem to have submitted later and gotten interviews.

I really hope I get one even though I submitted on 1/1

hey everyone! I applied to the School for Nursing in November. I didn’t do the optional essay, but if anyone wants to, I would love to swap common app and supplement essays. UPenn is my #1 choice. I have an interview on Friday, so wish me luck. Anyone else from ny or nyc apply to UPenn?

where does it say that? I submitted on the 20th

^ Duke has a rule like that, something like if you submit before the 10th or the 15th you are likely to receive an interview. I don’t think Penn has this rule too, but I could be wrong.

Duke and Harvard both say you have to submit by the 15th, but I didn’t see anything like that on the Penn website… I remember specifically looking it up near the beginning of Dec, to figure out how much longer I could procrastinate lol.

Pretty sure Penn doesn’t have a rule like that. I submitted my app on November 1st for ED and got an email for an interview about a week later.

i know penn has a rule like that for ED’ers. not surea bout RD’ers.

If I haven’t heard anything about interview, am I still going to have one?
I submitted my application before Christmas…

@jokesbg I vaguely remember reading something like that… although, I thought if you submit before 12/15 you have a higher priority for interviews.

that may be possible but I submitted on the 31st and i had an interview scheduled before they even acknowledged that they received my application

Ah, pooh on priority. I like interviews… I hope I get one.

Helllooooooo

I was deferred ED for Huntsman. Hopefully I get into either Huntsman or Wharton. Good luck everyone!

like i said… priority. It all depends on if there are/how many present alumni available in your area. I guess you have a lot - so you’re lucky!

My son submitted 1/1 (last minute) and we hadn’t heard anything at all. Common app said everything was downloaded but no word from UPenn. Emailed this morning to ask and they responded that all was well and he’d get his login info shortly.

PHEW!!!

Submission date has nothing to do with getting an interview. Admissions doesn’t even look at RD applications until after January 1. Your name is then given to an alumnus/alumna who has volunteered to do interviews, and if he/she has time to interview you, you get an interview. If not, you don’t get an interview. The interview is very informal, though, and it won’t drastically improve your chances of getting into Penn.

How do I know? I’m friends with an alumni interviewer, and he filled me in on the process! I submitted my application close to 11:50PM on January 1, too.

hopeful2b i’m going for huntsman too!

@AVHS Dad

Your son does not belong at Penn if you emailed Penn for him.
