Penn 2017 ED Discussion Thread

I’m kinda nervous because no one contacted me for my interview either, and Im sure theres a ton of alumni in Boston.

Just had my interview as well! I know it didn’t hurt me. I just don’t know how it’ll help me.

Let the wait begin.

Has anyone from the NY area been contacted for an interview?

I bring news about ED applications:

[ul][]Applications increased from 4,527 last year to 4,780
[]However, Penn still plans to admit only about 1,200
[]Eric Furda (Dean of Admissions) says he is “impressed” with short-answer responses he’s seen.
[] “‘The jury’s still out’” on the Ben Franklin essay question.[/ul]

^I sure hope my short answer was among those described by Dean Furda!

Does anyone know if ED sends out likely letters too?

^^ Ouch, more ED applicants = more competition.

^ There aren’t any likely letters for ED applicants, they would be kinda pointless anyways.

Oh darn…good point though.

But higher numbers doesn’t necessarily mean more competition if the quality of applicants is not up to par. Then again, that’s just wishful thinking ;)

I just started a separate thread dedicated to today’s DP article about the number of ED apps for the Class of 2017 (as has been done for similar articles in the past), to bring it to the attention of a wider audience beyond those who read this thread, and to make searching for it easier in the future.

In case anyone was wondering. ;)

in case you haven’t seen this … Mr. Furda posted a blog today about interview

“Applications increased from 4,527 last year to 4,780”

I really wish they broke these numbers down to how many applied to which schools (Wharton, SEAS, CAS, Nursing)…

I agree, I would think that a great deal of applicants would be applying to Wharton, but I still wouldn’t be surprised if there was also a substantial amount applying to CAS.

For all those who are applying to SEAS, I have a questions:

I was wondering whether or not BE has a lower admittance rate than applying to a different or general engineering major. I’ve heard rumors and haven’t found any exact answers.

I’ve heard <10% for BE SEAS and something around 30% regular engineering SEAS.

Can someone clarify this?

"‘The jury’s still out’" on the Ben Franklin essay question.

The Ben Franklin essay is the one to where the ED applicant will have had “knocked the ball out of the park” in order to rise above others. This is what I’m reading between the lines.

Does anyone know if penn requires that you send in first quarter grades? Or do they just request it?

they’re optional

Sent from my DROID X2 using CC

Can anyone that had an interview recommend me a dresscode? It’s at a coffee shop if that’ll provide some insight.

Gracias.

^Some people have posted what they wore on other pages of the thread. For the most part, dressy casual seems to be what the unofficial code is. Depends if you’re a guy or girl.

mk. unnecessary post of mine duly noted.

carry on Quaker hopefuls

My interview actually cut into school so I had to leave early…so I wore very casual clothes since I couldn’t change. My interviewer wore very casual clothes as well.

As long as your type of clothes match the interviewer’s…you should be fine.

If your interviewer is a guy, chances are he will wear a suit and all that pazazz if your interview is at some public place (cafes).

If your interviewer is a woman…idk. My interviewer wore casual but then again my interview was at her home.

My interviewer wore a North Face fleece jacket with dark denim jeans and boots…

I showed up in dress pants and flats .___.
