Wondering if the info that are provided in penn financial aid supplement will influence the admission decision. For example in 'estimated resources' in the first page if I fill bigger amount than calculated EFC amount thru CSS/IM, would it make a favorable impact on the admission decision.

UPenn is need blind…so, no, it shouldn’t influence the admission decision…

Thanks. Does it mean that Adcom don’t even look at Penn Financial aid supplement?

maybe someone else can chime in (like 45 percenter; guru on Upenn admissions)…I don’t think the adcoms even see the FA stuff…but I could be wrong…

Thanks Rodney. If anyone has more insight on this, please…

I really hope it is need blind. But why does it say on the penn portal that my child is a financial aid candidate? They must know he is applying for financial aid just by going on the penn portal. I really hope this doesn’t affect their decisions.

From what I saw from admissions they didn’t have any details on my aid, I tried to contact them to clear up an issue and they referred me to SFS. I actually submitted my actual financial aid supplement after I was accepted ED so they definitely weren’t waiting on it to make the decision.

It seems from this that they might know that you are a financial aid candidate, however I am 100% sure they learn nothing about the situation. That said, I’m fairly confident that they don’t even see your aid eligibility/request, but I’m not an expert there.

not in the slightest bit at all. i got lazy and didn’t even turn in my financial aid stuff until i got all of my acceptances back and then picked penn. like someone else said, the adcoms don’t see it.

:o

Thanks for the vote of confidence. ;)

Penn prides itself on having need-blind undergraduate admissions–that is, for citizens and permanent residents of the US and Canada (it’s not yet need-blind for other international applicants, although some international financial aid is available).

Need-blind presumably means need-BLIND, and not need-myopic :); so if a Penn applicant is a US or Canadian citizen or permanent resident, the admission decision should not be influenced in any way by financial aid information.

Thank you all for clearing my doubt. Appreciate it.
