Hey, so right now I’m doing the transfer application to Penn…and I had a few questions…

1.) The Penn short answer about a Penn prof you would like to study with – how did you guys find one? Just looking through the website for a prof that teaches in the program you’re applying to?
2.) Approx. how many words were your essays?
3.) For the online ap, did anybody really submit a picture? I know it says that the admissiion people like to match a face to the application, but I wonder if the admission staff may subconsciously take how attractive you are into account?

1) I went through the departments and found a teacher doing research on something that I'd be interested in and talked about how I'd be interested in doing it...haha

2) My "why penn" essay was about 400 words.

3)I submitted a picture. Some people say that they take attractiveness into account. Of course, they'd never say it, but I'm pretty sure being attractive wouldn't hurt. Of couse, being unattractive probably wouldn't hurt either...or shouldn't. But if you have a picture you might as well send it.

As long as your not uber ugly, I think your safe. haha, I'm just kidding. Of course they take into account how attractive or appealing you are based on your looks (they'd be crazy to explicitly say so, but they do). Just think about it as if you were buying a car. Why buy a car you haven't seen? The admissions committee probably doesn't weigh it very heavily, compared to other aspects, but it makes a difference.
