Penn App. - Q & A!

Bump to: "See attached" /\ 2. Yea/nay?

1st, regarding the supplemental recs. They would like your name, birthday, and SS number on any Supp Material, whether it is a rec or recording.

26e: I would say yes, it's okay if the teacher uses their own format as extra support, but I think they should fill out the chart, and other relevant info. I think it's there for a reason; it tells the adcoms what they want to know in a time-saving and organized fashion.

Yeah. I'm happy, I made "top encountered" for potential in just a couple months. I'll take it with top 5 everywhere else. :)

nice! (gives you a well-deserved pat on the back) ;)

I hope at least one of my teachers feels this way about me...........

i hope so too. if EVERY cc person doesn't get in it'll be so sad :(

for the pg 217 essay, i have a significant event that happened in my life when i was 11. Would that be appropriate? or does it have to be in the future!

second question! I've been here 4 yrs and english is not my native language. I took the sat and 3 Sat II's. Do i really have to take the toefl? becuz i think it's a waste of my money.

3 questions..

I have applied ED to Huntsman, but I will be taking my SAT 2's in november - does this narrow my chances? Or is rush reporting the SAT 2's still ok?

2nd q - Penn's site claims that if you apply to Huntsman ED this will not reduce your chances if you have chosen to also be considered as an ED candidate to the college. But what if the admissions committee wants to consider you as a Huntsman applicant later - will they defer you for consideration into Huntsman with regular apps or will they straight up reject you from Huntsman December and instead put you in the ED College pool?

How long does the Huntsman essay have to be? It does not specify. Also - should I type out the essay question, or just write down the essay question number?

Willing to hear your thoughts,

Thanks.

gkilla: pg 217 can be anything, anytime

This has most likely been asked before but if we are applying online, do we need to mail in:
1. application signature form
2. financial aid application

Thanks

Yes you do need to mail in the application signature form, I don't know if you have to mail in the financial aid form.

Does anyone know how long after you submit the application that you will get your Penn access code so to check your application status?
Also, if you are applying ED do you need to rush October SAT scores?

Gkilla, if you did reasonably well on the SAT critical reading, then you don't need to take the TOEFL. Reasonably wellI think means something like above a 500.......I'm not exactly sure.

I would talk to a GC just to be safe.

dnm:

rushing scores is perfectly fine. It does not affect your chances

I don't know about the second one, since I'm not doing a dual-degree program, but I think you can specify is you want to be considered with the rest of the ED pool if you don't get in.

sokollwn: yes, you need to send the financial aid form as well, along with the signature page

knows11:
I don't know when we get our access code, but regarding your second wuestion, no, you do NOT need to rush October SAT scores for ED

and for a counselor rec, do i just send her the online rec thing? also, what's the app signature form? i'm utterly lost and completely behind

I received this after I sent in Part I of my app online.

"Please send the signature/certification page to our offices within one week. Our mailing address is: Office of Undergraduate Admissions, University of Pennsylvania, 1 College Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19104-6376."

Can someone lead me to where I the "signature/certification page" is at? I hope Penn doesn't get mad cause it's already been two weeks. :/

jackie: idk how to get to it unless you can re-access the app, but if you don't get an answer PM me and i'll try and send you a link from my app, or copy & paste, or something.

Q: I don't have a colour printer. Is black & white ok for rec forms/fa forms/signature forms, etc?

also, since my ACT was cancelled, do i put the ORIGINAL date on the app?

For the teachers recs, is it okay that the envelopes I gave to my teachers have my address on them? My GC told me this is okay, but she's a little... not all there.

Also, and I've been losing sleep over this, will Penn accept SAT II Writing scores? I mean, the application doesn't say anything about not accepting them. If they don't accept Writing because it's on the SAT, then they shouldn't accept Literature or Math, either!!! sigh I can't call the Admissions office until Monday, so I know I'll be pacing around my house and biting my nails off this whole weekend. It's really bothering me because if they don't accept Writing, I'll only have one SAT II (I'm taking another in December, a foreign language, purely for placement purposes). And I applied ED. Ugh. Someone ease my mind!

astrid, you have to make sure you don't let the late registration deadline slip away for the november test...i don't think you're in a good way.

Did you happen to take the ACT?

Q: we can still take the nov. SAT, right, and rush our scores for ED?
