Penn Art? Music/Film

What is the quality of Penn art programs specifically music or film? How does it stack up compared to the other ivies and ivy teer schools

If you want to do something involving music, you should definitely look into Yale first. An anonymous donor just contributed a huge amount to Yale's music program, so Yale now gives free tuition for EVERY student that is majoring in music.

After that, Harvard/Penn/Brown are schools worth looking into for fine arts.

However, Yale's thing applys only to the Grad program.

I'm actually also very curious about Penn's music. (in my case, undergrad non-major?)

what about darthmouth, columbia, stanford, princeton, and others

Penn has a terrific music situation for undergrad non-majors. If you are at an intermediate level of performance you can get subsidized instrument lessons from the Music 10 course for class credit as long as you play in an ensemble. There is also the Music From The College Houses Program where you can start learning a new instrument or take vocal lessons free paid for by Penn and instruments include things like the sitar. The Cassatt String Quartet was in residence this year offering master classes and performances. You can take an undergrad conducting course at the Curtis Institute. There are a lot of fine music teachers in Philly because of the Curtis Institute and the Philadelphia Orchestra. There are $8 student tickets to the Philadelphia Orchestra. Check out the Penn music department website. There is not a performance major however if that is what you seek.

looking for something for composition most likely. Very interested in that curtis program, sounds awesome. I saw that columbia has something going with julliard, but i wasn't sure what college's actual program was better, not taking into account their affiliations with those programs.

Penn's graduate program in composition is terrific; don't know if that affects the undergraduate program other than these composition faculty do also tech undergraduate courses but perhaps not in compostion
