Penn Clubs - Application/Interview Processes

Hi everyone, I’m an incoming Penn student and was wondering what clubs are known to have rigorous application processes. I’m just curious so I can know what to expect with the clubs I end up being interested in when I get to campus. Thanks!

There are way too many clubs to list random ones. Is there a type of club or interest that you have in mind?

@Much2learn I’m interested in the DP, some service groups, and some academic groups (like the math and statistics societies). I guess my question should be rephrased in asking if there are any clubs that are notorious for being hyper-selective or demanding in their application processes.

The most competitive clubs are usually ones that need to be limited in size for some reason: singing groups, groups that work on specific projects, things like that.

Great News- Life is going to get easier for incoming freshmen re clubs!!

Looks like they are working to take some of the competitive stress out of the club interview/application process- According to the Daily Penn article that just posted:
http://www.thedp.com/article/2017/06/penn-club-application-overview

"In March, SAC passed a series of guidelines designed to curtail the stressful nature of club recruitment. It banned clubs from requiring resumes from freshmen, limited the rounds of interviews or auditions to two and prohibited the use of brain teasers in the application process. "

This will be very beneficial, IMO

Can you list a dozen clubs that aren’t competitive?

Harvard: “A faculty committee has recommended that the College forbid students from joining all “fraternities, sororities, and similar organizations”—including co-ed groups—with the goal of phasing out the organizations entirely by May 2022”.

How about Penn? [-X

Some are competitive, some are not. Some hyper-competitive ones have multiple rounds of interviews, especially some of the Wharton Clubs (i.e consulting etc.). Some are in the middle and have 1 interview or a simple Google Forms application. Some take anyone as long as you sign up and show up. You can generally tell which ones are the more competitive ones, but you’ll get a feel from talking to more people and at the Club Fair.
