Penn College over Dartmouth?

Has anyone made this decision? If so, what were your reasons?

I am trying to decide between the 2 for transfer in the fall

Totally go to Dartmouth. Honestly, as a transfer the reason is something not immediately perceivable. Transfers fit into Dartmouth faster than at almost any school in the country. I was one and 99% of people dont even know I ever transferred. My friend who transferred from JHU to Penn (who I can put you in touch with) didnt have nearly as easy a transition. Here's why: 1) Dartmouth is small so its easy to meet people 2) people don't rush frats until sophomore winter so you rush with your class if you want that scene 3) there is sophomore summer a BIG chance to meet people 4) a majority of students do study abroad so you meet alot of awesome people there 5) transfer orientation occurs at the same time/ place as regular orientation.

slipper thanks for the reply. i am definitely into the frat scene and will be visiting dartmouth this friday night. i hope people arent too worn out from last week's big weekend. i am currently going to jhu just like ure friend did (i guess a lot of people leave here).

No way! That is funny. Apparently there is a steady JHU exodus every year. Unfortunately the week after green key (this past weekend - awesome) is pre-finals week so its really really dead and 90% of people are in the library cramming. So don't let that paint the picture. Dartmouth is incredibly fun, an amazing academic experience, and a wonderful experience. Its a place people love to love.

OMG Slipper to the rescue!

Everytime Dartmouth is in a thread title, you can expect slipper to interject.

lol im speechless

Hey dude, Dartmouth isn't an ivy, it's a LAC...

it is an ivy

Dartmouth is an ivy, and definately deserves more respect then it's normally accredited. On another note, can someone clarify this "exodus" from JHU? I mean, all in all, it seems like a fine institution.

Dartmouth is reallly good, however, don't go there, if you want the random joe smow on the streets to say OMG, dartmouth, wow, its really unheard of here in Cali, but most kids think Berkeley and Stanford are queen and king.

2 of my roomates turned down dartmouth, 1 was in CAS the other in M&T

I just personally happen to know a bunch of JHU transfers, might just be happenstance though.

I'd pick Penn's College over Dartmouth. Though I'm biased, to say the least.

Penn is in a city, which gives you great opportunities. However, Penn/Philly isn't like Columbia/NYC in which the city's beckoning saps the campus. Penn people do indeed form a Penn campus community, and it's really quite nice.

However, if you are transferring from JHU, Penn might have the same things that irritate you (this of course is entirely dependent on you). Like JHU, Penn is a big research university with an impersonal bureaucracy, and like JHU, Penn has a relatively big crime problem.

I'd still pick Penn because these things don't bother me, and I definitely feel like there is more opportunity here at Penn.

John, you make Al-queda look tepid, you fanatic

i bleed red and blue

He provided a well thought-out response.

The second comment, though, is something else. ;)

Hey all,

on the subject of transferring...
I'll be attending Wesleyan University in the fall and I was wondering what it might take to transfer to Penn. Slipper and JohnnyK did a nice job of outlining it a bit, but I was wondering how easy the change would be and what it might take to be accepted. A handful of friends I made last summer at Penn PreCollege and from my school will be going so I'd hope that would make the process easier if I do choose to transfer. Penn wouldn't be the only option, but I'd like your thoughts! thanks.
