Penn, Cornell, or Berkeley?

I'm going to major in bioengineering, but there is a chance that I might switch majors. Also, I'm planning to do pre-med, and hopefully attend med school.

-How strong is each in engineering, especially bioengineering?
-How is each for pre-med?
-Location?
-Security?
-How hard is it to get high grades? (i heard cornell has grade deflation)
-Is it really hard to get to know professors and to research at Berkeley?

How strong is each in engineering, especially bioengineering? None of these schools are strong in bio engineering.

-How is each for pre-med? pre-med is not a major.

-Location? penn is in ghetto, berkeley is cool. cornell is rural.
-Security? penn most likely to get hurt. next is CAL then Cornell.

-How hard is it to get high grades? (i heard cornell has grade deflation).
ummmm. that really depends on you.

-Is it really hard to get to know professors and to research at Berkeley?

this is not going to happen for an Undergrad.

The only thing frankie failed to mention is that he has no idea what he's talking about.

^ Yep. lol. Total lack of knowlege about what's going on.

-How strong is each in engineering, especially bioengineering?

In Bio E, Penn > Berkeley > Cornell. Penn's Bio E moved up to 5th for graduate rankings.

-How is each for pre-med?

By acceptance rate. Penn > Cornell > Berkeley.

-Location?

Depends. All three are different

-Security?

Cornell > Penn/Cal

-How hard is it to get high grades?

About the same for all three, if you're in engineering. Maybe hardest at Berkeley since its a public school, which is not known for grade inflation. Probably easiest at Penn.

JH>MIT>UCSD>GT.......................penn....cal...cornell.

I don't know what to say about the other schools, but I can tell you what I know about Penn. First of all, I love it here. It's the perfect balance of people who are smart and studious as well as involved in so many things outside of class. You should totally come =)

Now that I've given you my speech...here are my thoughts:

-How strong is each in engineering, especially bioengineering?

A few of my friends are BE majors, so I asked them about this. BE is one of the top priorities of the Penngineering department, because it's ranked pretty highly. Another plus for Penn is that it's so easy to get involved with research, two people I know are working with professors (one's a frosh, one's a soph).

-How is each for pre-med?

Penn pre-med is totally one of our strong points. First of all, Penn med has a reputation for being good to its own kids in terms of med school acceptance. Considering that our med school was just ranked 3rd in the country by US News, thats a pretty nice advantage. Also, among the Ivies, a Penn GPA is taken more seriously than some because it's on the low side for inflation.

-Location?

AMAZING. Yeah, it's Philly. Yeah, there's crime. But we have a ton of security guards, and it's always comforting that I see yellow jackets every 50 feet or so whenever I go out at night. There's so much to do in Philly, and you have to take the good with the bad. It's great to be able to be in the middle of a grassy campus with lots of fields but be able to walk to center city no problem.

-Security?

Our security is amazing, patrolling 24 hours, you can call to get an escort or a ride home 24/7. It almost makes up for sketchy Philadelphia =)

-How hard is it to get high grades? (i heard cornell has grade deflation)

You have to work hard here, but it usually pays off. It's fairly expected that you'll get B's if you put in the work, but getting A's can sometimes escape you even when you try really hard. The A definitely still has some value and is held in high regard.

-Is it really hard to get to know professors and to research?

As I mentioned before, research is pretty popular among undergrads. As for getting to know professors, the intro classes are usually pretty big. If you want to get to know them, you can go to office hours and theyre REALLY welcoming; however, if you just sit back and don't do anything, you may get lost in the crowd. It's really up to you.

Hope I helped, feel free to message me if you have any questions whatsoever...hurrah for the red and the blue!! =)
