I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this, but Dining Dollars cannot be used on the food trucks, right?

I only know one person who had the Quaker plan. That was because her dad signed her up for it and she hated it. Quaker plan is the worst one to get. It basically means all of your meals have to be done in a dining hall. It can hamper you socially if lots of your friends are going to Houston Hall or Savory for dinner and you can’t due to lack of dining dollars. Most people will be on the Liberty plan so have fun in the middle of the semester when everyone is going elsewhere for food and you’re stuck in the dining halls. Also, if you’re Kosher or Halal and want to abide by your dietary restrictions, (or just eat at Hillel after Friday services like many people do) it costs you one meal and two dining dollars to eat there. On the Quaker plan if you want to eat at Hillel it’ll kill your dining dollars.

About drinks, they have soda fountains there like you’d see at McDonald’s. I think they have Pepsi products. There is also juices (apple, orange, lemonade, etc.) and milk (chocolate, 2%, skim, silk, etc.).

Dining dollars ccannot be used at food trucks. On campus express they tell you where dining dollars can be used. You can actually buy groceries and stuff from Common’s convenience store with dining dollars.

most kids aren’t spending their parent’s money when they go to Houston. I, and mot people I know, had to spend our own money if we wanted to buy anything off the meal plan. You realize you’re also wasting more money if you only eat 50 meals a semester on the Quaker plan than the liberty plan?

Does Au Bon Pain accept dining dollars? It’s not on the list but it’s in Huntsman!

Au Bon Pain does accept dining dollars. I think its the best place to use them. also, GET THE LIBERTY PLAN. I know that 120 meals might not seem like a lot, but i dont know ANYONE that used all their meals. You will be fine with 120, i guarantee. Even if you run out by the end of the semester, you can use other peoples meal (most people have like 30 meals left over)

don’t forget about the amazing food carts… i am still torn between the liberty and the blue plan. I am going to be in Hill and I do eat quite a bit, so skipping meals won’t be something I’ll do. DO people go out for dinner on the weekdays often?

system: you’ve made some really good points. You said: “No point in spending $1000+ for only $400 dining dollars. Thats a true waste of money.” So, is $10 exactly = to 10 dining dollars? If so, you’re right. I’m living at Harnwell next year, and it’s right next to Commons 1920, so it would make sense for me to have the Quaker Plan I think. Where are you living?

We can still change after the first two weeks right? I’m going to see what my fall semester is like…I’m probably going to only eat, TOPS 12 meals/week or about 1-2/day.

I know that you can change your plan. Not sure what the deadline is though. But how can you only eat 12 meals/week?? I would probably eat 2 meals a day, but 1?? Wouldn’t you get hungry?

you have to realize that 1 meal = 1 face-stuffing session of all-you-can-eat to the point of painful respiration and incapacity to walk.

liberty all the way, folks

Yeah, go Liberty.

You kids need to realize, that’s one meal in a dining hall. Dining Dollars can buy food too. If you’re like me and can get by with smaller meals for lunch (bagel, small sandwich, etc.) you can make your dining dollars go really far. The last few times I went to dining halls with friends all I ate was cereal, fries, and fruit. Not worth the $15 the meal was valued at.

What System said made sense. The only advantage I saw to Liberty was that if you have your classes around williams hall, for example, you might not feel like returning to 1920 commons to eat. but, if you just don’t eat luch, you can avoid that problem.

is there a date by which time we’ll have to choose our dining plans??

Can you take food out of the dining halls? (i know this is probably frowned upon but can you do it???)

you can swipe your card again and then take out food, but you are also allowed to take out an apple or something and people do.

I lived in Hill last year and I ate dinner almost everyday in the dining hall downstairs (breakfast sometimes). Depending on where your classes are, I often found Hill to be a bit inconvenient to stop by when heading to all my classes that basically were not in DRL or the engineering section.

Also, paying with cash is not the same as paying with dining dollars, when you pay with cash there’s often tax involved (though I never quite figured out what exactly gets taxed with the whole “prepared food” deal).

Keep in mind that meals do not transfer over from one semester to another while the dining dollars do. I would say go with the liberty plan, if you run out of meals I’m sure you can find some friends and what not to swipe you in too.

wait then do dining dollars then just let you have non-cafeteria meals that are untaxed???

will I get in trouble if I fill my water bottle with juice/soda at a dining hall and save it for later?? hahahaha
