Penn Early Admit Statistics

Hopefully, this link will take you to the article in today’s DP.

http://www.dailypennsylvanian.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/01/18/41ecc15aed80c

34% of applicants admitted. (1,170 of 3,420 applicants)

Slightly more admits than last year; will fill record 48% of the class

Half ED admits are from Pennsylvania, NY and New Jersey.

21% of ED admits are legacies.

thanks mom. i enjoyed that

too bad they didn't tell us stats per school

thanks for the link!

whoa thats a high acceptance rate...

only 187 asians?? i would have thought it'd be higher.

how many applicants are they expecting for the regular round?....how many did they have last year?

nevermind....

Incoming Student Profile: Class of 2008

Total Applicants: 18,281
Total Admitted: 3,882 (21.0%)
Total Enrolled: 2,468 (64.0%)

Early Decision Applicants: 3,340
Total Admitted In December: 1,120 (34.0%)

so...assuming that the number of applicants slightly increases from last year, and adjusting the number of people accepted accordingly, there should still be a 2,800 applicants accepted out of 15, 080 that apply RD. That makes for a 18.6% acceptance rate...roughly 19%....not a great number, but not as bad as the 6-9% acceptance rates expected at harvard, yale, princeton, and columbia :-

The number of legacies admitted is ridiculous.

::shrug:: hey, they pay the bills....u gotta do what u gotta do

is there a way to get a refund and withdraw my application?

no, there isnt....y would u want to do that?

he doesn't think he's going to get in. there's no point now.

it annoys the bejesus outta me when ppl make idiotic comments like, "i don't think i'll get in, should i withdraw my app?......can i get a refund?" You freaking applied, stick with it, you might get lucky. In fact, that's what everyone is hoping for- luck. There is no sure fire candidate that is so desirable he can't be rejected. That's the thing about ivy's, they know that no one person is so good they can't be replaced. There will be others like him, if not better...

eibrahim, and to others lacking in self-confidence...get a hobby. Only a few weeks are left till decisions come out, till then, find something to occupy your time. Bye now :)

haha, i was being sarcastic btw. but i really wont get in (not with a 2.8, 1050). i' ll bet u anythin i wont get in. i' ll keep u updated.

well....regardless of whether or not you get in, you're not doing anyone a favor by feeling sorry for yourself :-

Also, the ED applicant pool is likely stronger than the RD pool, full of high-scoring students who are sure they want to go to UPenn next year, so the essay quality is probably very high too. The RD rate discourages me a little bit, but I'm still optimistic. You can't be sure of anything though...

i guess. oh well, nothing i can do now. good luck to u all.

ED applicants = richer
