What do you guys think?

That bad? :(

I think your chances are pretty good for ED. No need to retake the SAT

It would help if you could provide your rank, ethnicity and state. But I’m inclined to agree with astonmartinDBS

My school doesn’t rank. I’m Caucasian male (if only being Jewish was a minority), and I live in New Jersey.

^Jews are actually the most overrepresented religious denomination at selective schools. I think that America is ~2% Jewish but the Ivies are about ~20% Jewish.

Oh I know that there are a lot of Jews in Ivys, but I meant compared to the rest of the country :p

And religious Jews are I think less than .1% of the world population. Real minority ;)

I think you have a very good chance. I don’t think you need to retake the SAT. Put your effort into your essays instead. What school are you applying to?

Penn, Princeton, Columbia, Copper, McCauly, and Oxford.

My College Guidance Counselor keeps telling me my GPA is too low.

Rank will be key even though your school does not officially rank. Penn gets a ton of applications from white NJ kids, being at the top of your class will be key. Your school will give them enough info to know where you rank.

And if you think you can do better retake the SAT. A quick look at the common data set will show you that chances go up significantly as scores do.

Anyone else? I retook the SATs yesterday, and I’m confident I raised my CR+Math atleast 50 points. I feel closer to 80 even. I’m feeling the possibility of a 2390, but definitely a 2350 I’d say.

And I registered to take the Literature SAT II.

Also, I speak fluent hebrew, and go to a Jewish school with a dual curriculum.

So, anyone else? My chances?

Your chances look good esp. if your SAT is higher now.

You speak fluent hebrew? Isn’t there a SAT II hebrew test?

Yeah there is a Hebrew SAT II but it’s written Hebrew, not spoken Hebrew, so that’s a little annoying though I could still break 700 easily. I sorta feel like it’s a waste though. I know some colleges don’t even count language SAT II’s, and Penn only counts the top two SAT II’s. I’m fairly confident I’ll get an 800 on Lit, and if not, I have an 800 and 770 to fall back onl

That looks really good. Except your location and Jewishness knock you down a peg (sorry :p). But I think you’ll get in.

You guys don’t think my GPA is too low? It’s I think officially a 92.8 not counting this years grades. It was like an 89-90 Freshman year, 93 sophomore year, and 95 junior year. They like progression, right?

Ok my official GPA is 92.08. Not top 10% of my class. 80 kids in my grade 25 in my class (AP’s/High Honors).

However I have an upward swing. 89 GPA Freshman Year, 92 Sophomore, 94-95 Junior, and so far senior year I have a 95-98ish GPA.

So knowing my exact GPA and the fact that I’m not top 10% even though my school doesn’t rank, what do you think?

Also, I take a dual curriculum. I’m in school from 7:30 until 5:30, and have about twice the courseload of any other school.

If you’re ever wondering, here’s how you can calculate your GPA to find it on a 4.0 scale - divide it by 100, and then multiply times 4. So a 93 would be 93/100x4, which is around a 3.72, which is admittedly a bit low for some of those schools; however, you have an upward trend, which is great, and you never really know with Ivies. I say apply anyways.

Thanks man. Using that formula my GPA comes out to a little more than 3.68. Basically 3.70. Is that bad for an Ivy ED? And I have an upward swing like mentioned above.

Any more opinions?

penn state should be a safety school for you. my friend goes there and its pretty easy to get in. your gpa isn’t low enough to hurt you, the thing about ivies is they care more about your proactivity and as long as your a top student they don’t care if your a little below or above the average stellar student. they just want to see your driven, have an international scope, and are likable. you have a pretty decent chance at all your schools if you maybe take 3 subject tests (maybe mathII and do well on it) and write really great essays, cause essays ultimately are the things that get you in after youve achieved that academic success. Please chance me!
