Penn ED 2015 INTERVIEW Thread

Got a Penn interview already… that was fast :O

Mine’s scheduled for Friday :open_mouth:
Kinda excited to be honest :)

Thank you whartongrad08, that was very informative.

I’m an RD applicant, but what’s the general suggestion for dress code in these interviews?

^ I’m thinking about a dress shirt, dress shoes, and slacks. Not sure about a tie though

most male candidates wear just a dress shirt, slacks, and dress shoes. No need for a suit or tie…it’s usually a relatively informal interview.

I really hope I get an interview. I feel like it would really make my passion for Penn apparent to those deciding my fate. I have an interview for another school this week, I hope I get as fortune to have one for Penn.

Good luck to those already scheduled!

whartongrad could you suggest something for females?

For dress code, I think it depends on the location and the interviewer, my friend had his at a silver diner, and the dude told him to just wear casual clothes, so I would probably just ask or something, I am sure the interviewer wouldn’t mind answering that question.

I’m from the Bay Area. My interview should be in a week or so… Any ideas on what to wear? I look really, really bad in slacks & formal clothes… I’m used to wearing shorts all the time because my thighs are pretty big compared to my knees & further down…

Help. ): I hate wearing jeans & long pants…

Like I said, I would just ask my interviewer if that is possible, I mean I don’t think they will get any preconcieved notions about you if you ask what to wear. What is worse is not asking and then under dressing, or maybe even over dressing.

Uh oh… it’s going to be within 1-2 weeks? My practice interview with my counselor is only next week though :(!!

Really? I’ve been reading the Yale Interviewing FAQ/Discussion posted by some Yale alumni interviewers and they all said it was usually just a collared shirt/khakis.

mrmeursault - remember that I usually interview for Wharton…Wharton candidates tend to me more professional than most college students. I actually do get a decent amount of candidates that show up in suits.

but its not like i would ever doc anyone for their attire unless they showed up like utter slobs. A collared shirt and khakis is fine.

I think a button-down shirt with khakis and loafers is the most inconspicuous yet professional.

Thank you so much Whartongrad08, your insight is very helpful! I am waiting for the email or phone call to arrive, I really hope I get the opportunity to interview with Penn. I love the school and feel it is such a great fit and would love to be part of the Penn community. I live in an area close to Philadelphia so I would assume there would be many available alums in my area to do interviews. I hope if I don’t get one it’s not a bad sign. I sent in my ED application in September. Best of luck to all of you who are scheduled to interview this week or next!

Hi guys I have a question…
for UPENN interviews, do you request one or do you simply sit and wait for one?
I am applying for Huntsman and I emailed to the address they provided requesting for an interview << is that the right way to do it?

^Same question as rukimakino.

Further, I’m an international. Is there a way I can request an interview?

and are there any fellow EDers who haven’t received their Penn Portal ids yet?

I’m from a very small town in Canada and doubt that I’ll get an interview but whartongrad’s comment about interviews actually being important during ED is worrying me a bit.

Post #37: For UPENN interviews, do you request one or do you simply sit and wait for one?

Usually you do not need to request one. Simply completing the application will trigger a list of all applicants in a region to be sent to the secondary school committee in the area. They will then schedule the interviews. Some of the dual-degree programs will require a separate interview that they will contact, but that said Huntsman doesn’t require one.

Post #38/39: To see if there is an active secondary school committee in your region or country visit the following link ([Penn Admissions: Interviews](http://www.admissionsug.upenn.edu/applying/interviews.php) )
