Penn ED 2015 INTERVIEW Thread

thank you whartongrad08
now I’ll just have to…sit and wait

There is no active committee in my area where I go to school–which is really stressing me out, given what I just read about their importance in Early Decision.

My dad works in a different city where I go every weekend, and there are TWO heads of chairs there. I tried calling the SSC and they told me I can only interview where I live aka not in my dad’s city. I’m really scared this will negatively affect me.

@ Whartongrad, well, there is a chairperson for my province, but my province is huge.

daretorun - Don’t stress. Although the interviews play more of a role in ED not having one will not negatively impact you. They are not going to penalize you because there isnt a SSC in your city. So relax.

same goes for powerbomb.

powerbomb - Usually if there is a secondary school committee in a region or province they usually will contact interviews in the larger cities in the province. That said, there is always a chance that there is an alum that is in a nearby city that may be scheduling interviews for those in the neighboring towns, etc.

I did this last year, although i live in a large city I got a list of candidates that included candidates in neighboring towns and I tried to schedule something with them for when they visited the city on a weekend, etc.

In your case if you live near a major city in the province then there is a chance that you could get an interview.

I got my call today, interview next Monday! I’ve read about doing things like reading the newspaper for the week preceding the interview so you can be up to date on current events, is this recommended? Any other tips for having the “winning” interview? Wow that sounds super dumb.

Whartongrad (or any person who has given interviews), if you don’t mind me asking, what were your most memorable interviews? What do you think makes someone stand out?

^good question!

^how about you just be yourself rather then pretending to sound educated by reading the newspaper. i mean if you dont keep up with current events in general i think thats kind of silly. but trying to suddenly become cultured is not going to fool anyone.

I myself was talking about

xD
I don’t need to take extra initiative to keep up in current events… because I already do… :p

Hahahaha, no need to jump to conclusions, I’m up to date on the biggest current events (thank you public radio), but I don’t want to be flung a question about a recent vote in the house about some obscure issue if I tell them I’m interested in a possible political science major. I’m sure that probably won’t come up, but who knows? I’m just wondering if we need to take some sort of extra steps to be prepared outside of the daily routine.

Well they aren’t there to quiz you. I think you’re really over thinking things. Just be yourself, it’s what Penn wants anyways.

You’re probably right, it just seems like there is so much riding on it, especially for ED. But that aside, any answers from interviewers?

So have most people gotten a call/email about an interview? I know it’s a bit early, but I’m getting anxious about not getting any news on having an interview. I love Penn so much and also love to talk and I would be really sad if I don’t have an interview =[

Quick question:
So if the Penn Interview website says that my regional committee is inactive, does that mean I won’t be getting an interview? The thing is that my regional committee is a small city located in Los Angeles, which is an active committee. This makes me really confused.

I got contacted by my interviewer today and I’ve come to realize
-I know her daughter
-This woman has interviewed me before for a program she’s a part of (and her daughters a part of)
-I got into said program (partially because of her, multiple people were interviewing me at once)

Is this a good thing? A bad thing? I’m really nervous now, because I kind of know her (I’ve met her twice, but still).

Unfortunately, that is correct. I believe you will not be getting an interview. If it makes you feel any better, this happened to me too. No active committee in my “region”.

ohh man, just got my email about an interview, kind of nervous now, but I think it will be helpful.

still waiting for the interview… when’s the latest you can get the notification? :[
I wish I will receive an interview in the next month…

i think someone posted a link of the interview boards in different states somewhere on this trhead, look up your state and see if there is an active interview board in your area. Then you will know if you will have an interview or not.

I’ve checked and there is an active interview board in my area… but not everyone in the area will get one right? Only the selected ones?

^ How do you check if your regional committee is active or not?
