I've worked at Penn all summer. I've spoken to students. I know exactly why I love Penn and how I could fit in.

Little to no chance.

Agree with ^^^^. Deferred ED, ultimately denied.

I don’t see a deferral. Read Penn’s common data set, unfortunately this is not going to fly.

You’ve been around these boards long enough to start focusing on colleges where you have a shot. Energy going into a Penn ED application is not helping you.

How much different would this person’s chances be if he/she had a ~3.8 UW GPA?

With a 36 ACT, 2400 SAT II’s, and a few strong EC’s, this person seems like a rather strong applicant aside from GPA.

A 3.8 is a lot different than a 3.4, especially when you figure than GPA/Rank is by far the most important factor.

yeahh…I hate to be harsh, but I think that GPA is really going to hurt you  ED usually does help your chances somewhat, but not with those stats… you should try looking at other places. good luck!

There is no such thing as a strong applicant with a sub par GPA.

GPA is the most important factor. Period. 98% at Penn are in the top 10% of their class, and that’s calculated at the end of junior year, not senior. That includes the hooked.

We are all so sorry.

Plenty of colleges, many of them worthy of you, would take your application with a smile. But Ivies are notoriously unforgiving, and I don’t believe that you have a chance at Stanford.

Read the Fiske guide all the way through. Do real research. Get rid of the brand name mentality and find the school that’s right for you. ;)

Wait, I meant Penn. I get those schools mixed up because they’re all the same. >.<

To hmom5, the OP IS in the top10% of his class, but I agree that chances look slim. I must say you probably have one of the best chances anyone with a 3.4 UW gpa could have though, if that means anything.

He says he’ll be in the top 10% including senior year. I read that as not presently in it.

This just shows how little I know about admissions, even after being on the boards for some time. When I read the first post, I actually though there was an okay chance. But I didn’t know GPA was most important…T_T I guess you learn something everyday.
