Penn ED deadline extended from Nov. 1 to Nov. 11...

Penn:

"Greetings from Philadelphia!

In the event that you are applying Early Decision to the University of Pennsylvania, we are reaching out to encourage you to submit both The Common Application and Penn Writing Supplement by Friday, November 1. If you are experiencing technical issues, take a deep breath and clear your head. Please be assured that Penn’s Office of Admissions understands that students have encountered problems submitting application materials, and we will continue to accept Early Decision applications and school materials through Monday, November 11."

Dazzed: It is ALL MATERIALS that will be accepted by November 11th, not just the common application and the writing supplement. Keep in mind some of the problems with the common app have been with those additional materials such as recommendations.

Dilina: By the wording of one notification I read, it would appear that you can submit materials by November 11th even if you aren’t having difficulties but another notification seemed to strongly suggest that Penn expects that if you are going to be submitting for the November 11th date, it is because you are having issues with the common app. You’re even instructed to let them know you are having issues.

My take? No difficulty? You are encouraged (but not required) to submit by November 1. Personally if something is strongly encouraged (like the SAT2 test suggestions), I take that as (basically) a requirement. It’s really your call if you wish to take advantage of the extension in the absence of a problem.

I’ve been having those formatting issues like probably everyone else, so would it be better to submit my common app by the 1st and then submit my Penn supplement by the 11th? I sent Penn and common app an email about it a few hours ago, but they haven’t responded.
