Penn EDers: Academic Index

and sry (sumwat sarcastic but also not, cuz i know im gettin an unfair advantagne) if i make you cry... lol, nothing i can do about it :-</p>

Thats with ranks, because 1) the AI says rank is more precise than GPA, and 2) w/ GPA, everyone has like 8s and 9s

Don't worry crouton, you're legacy and will get in over me even with your 4.

academic index is outdated.

this is the biggest crap I've ever seen. The AI doesn't look at how competitive your school is, how inflated your grades are, etc.

"A is for Admission" officer is from Dartmouth.. I mean, COME ON! Who cares about how Dartmouth uses their academic index? Penn is sooo much smarter than that.

Ya, let's hope so.

And psh, yeah -- Penn > Dartmouth

Why, do competitive HSers carry like, more weight or something than regular HSers ?

My 236 was gotten with ranks :)

Without my SAT retake, my AI is:
Your Academic Index: 230
Your AI Rank: 9 out of 9
(I got a 2380 on the retake)

If I count my writing section score as an SAT II instead of not counting it at all:
Your Academic Index: 237
Your AI Rank: 9 out of 9

Of course, none of this actually means anything because it's pretty damn outdated. Still, I don't think it was ever meant to be an exact measure of anything, just an approximation.

I am going to kill you :)

Oh, me too.

<3

Really though, I wouldn't take this measure too seriously...
I just happen to be a good test taker. I actually focus much more on my extracurriculars (mostly National History Day, if there are any other NHDers here, then <3).

Academic Index: 221
A1 Rank: 7
Applying to CAS (ED); Legacy

i'm wharton, by the way

i <3 tests.

competitive hs carry more weight than non competitve cuz its harder to do well there... a B at an amazing hs is better than an A at a mediocre one...

example... friend was a straight C student... well, mostly cs, one or two bs in my high school... moved away and became mostly As with one or two Bs...

another kid who moved took all honors in my school and got As on evrything... moved away and said that our regular classes were harder than their honors classes... so thats y it matters

Oh, that's interesting.

I go to a competitive all-boys Catholic HS. It's harder to get into than just about all other schools in my area - Only 1/4 of applicants are admitted... Dunno how/if this helps me at all.

With rank
Your Academic Index: 234
Your AI Rank: 9 out of 9

With gpa
Your Academic Index: 235
Your AI Rank: 9 out of 9

Wharton

thatll help u... a lot

Meh, we'll see about that.

Score 221.5
Rank 7/9
CAS - ED
Mixing in 34 on ACT - Equiv. to 2250 ish
SATII - 700, 690,690

I agree with what was previously said about competitive high schools. Indeed course load is generally tougher I mean I took 6 APs after junior year and know a few ppl took 7, and will finish high school with 12 AP classes and 14 tests taken (2 for Eco, and 2 for Physics C). The other thing about competitive high schools is that rank is often diluted because of the sheer amount of good students and smart kids. About 80% of the kids at my school have gpas higher than 2.5 (80) and only 2 kids in a graduating class of 300 had avgs in the 60s, and 98% of last year's class went to a four year (92%) or two year colleges. So the AI deflates the academic achievements of those in competitive high schools.
