Yeah I really think it depends. 3.9+ at peer institution and last round waitlist last year, still flat out rejected. Hard to say why.
God damn, did anyone get into Wharton?
I did. Took 3 hours to calm down.
Can we all be friends? Yep? Ok!!!
Congrats Jerseyboy123! What school are you currently at and what were your stats if you don’t mind sharing?
Do you guys think you’re going to go? I honestly can’t decide
Accepted CAS! Also can’t decide if I will go or not @cassat … I’m currently at a small private Christian university in Southern California, and I know UPenn is the more presitigious option, but I feel like it would be hard to ever achieve the levels of leadership, etc. I have here. Anyone have any thoughts?
You shouldn’t have applied if you are uncertain you want to leave. And then to flaunt that you are “not sure you want to go”? Not right at all.
YO who else got accepted? I wanna make friends with yall…preferably with the folks who actually want to go to penn
@newbie1616 I’m leaving northeastern, combined math and ba major. 35 act one try, 800 math II, 800 chem, 4.0 this year, 3.918 unweighted from top 20 high schools in the country, led a service trip to Puerto Rico, CFO of a start up that won recognition from TJX, senator in SGA, member of the social impact council, which I was selected for by the university president. Also killer recs I’m sure, essays were about why Wharton has everything I want in a program and Northeastern missed the mark. Happy to answer any other questions.
Accepted to CAS as a Junior!
College:
Top 15 LAC
Year: Junior Transfer
3.76 GPA, ~3.8 midterm report. I’m premed with an Econ minor, so a bunch of math/sciences and some Econ peppered in.
ECs: College EMS, SAT Tutor for Inner City high schoolers (with a leadership position), Ultimate Frisbee Team, Summer Volunteering at an organization dedicated to helping Minorities enter medicine, research assistant on paper presented at major conference in Italy, Judge and Mentor for my High School Speech and Debate team.
High School:
2360 SAT I, 800 on Bio/Math II/US Hist, 790 on Phys SAT II, 9 APs, all 4s and 5s
92.6/100, probably ~75th percentile of a very famous and well reputed high school
ECs/Awards: A bunch of awards for scoring well on various tests, Honors Society, Robotics team, Speech team. Volunteering at Hospitals and Shadowing doctors too.
Recommendations: Definitely very good. I talked to them about transferring and said I wanted a bigger school, which I also heavily wrote about in my essays. Got good professors from majors that are the same as what I applied to, who liked me a lot. Overall this was a strong point and probably what got me in.
Essays: Overall pretty good, but I made one HUGE mistake. There is a common app essay and a Penn supplement and I literally copied an entire paragraph from my Common Essay and wrote it again in the Penn supplement, so the same paragraph appeared twice basically right next to each other when the adcoms read it. I guess they didn’t care too much about the essays for me because I feel like that should be a HUGE red flag. I must have gotten in via the numbers and the recs. I wrote about how I want to work in Public Health and how Penn has a bunch of excellent classes that are very interdisciplinary and can prepare me well, and how I was looking for a bigger more diverse campus. Having clear reasons for wanting to transfer that are evidenced in the rest of your app helps a lot I think.
As an aside, I had a disciplinary violation at school that I reported on the common app. I was caught smoking weed outside campus about 2 days before the app was due, which totally panicked me. DEFINITELY DISCLOSE. If they ever find out you lied on your application in any way they can kick you out, or even withdraw your degree DECADES after you graduate. Not worth risking it. Besides, if anyone is worried about something dumb like an alcohol/pot violation or noise complaint affecting their chances, don’t worry, they don’t care at all. However, if you get in trouble more than once for the same thing, then you might be in trouble.
Didn’t expect to get in at all, super grateful. See y’all in Philly!
Sorry if it seemed like I was flaunting about not going… I was just trying to gauge interest as to who was going to go to Penn or choose another school. I’m sorry if it was inappropriate!
I just found this thread. accepted to CAS! i’m so thrilled. is anyone going to the open house this saturday?
I am!
I’m going too!
I’m definitely going if I get enough financial aid. Won’t be at the open house – I’m moving out of my current school on Saturday
@cassat @YounceKnowles Awesome! And I’m sorry you can’t make it to the open house, @musicforlife32 . The online agenda says the first event is registration, what does it mean? It doesn’t mean that I have to make a decision to go to penn by then if I want to go to the open house, is it?
No, I think it just means you register for the day. You get a name tag and stuff like that @willjamie
@musicforlife32 oh yeah that makes a lot more sense lol. it was a silly question. thank you!
Accepted CAS. 3.67 GPA from another middle tier Ivy.
2300+ SAT
