Penn Freshman up for questions

So I noticed that a lot of people on this board are choosing between Penn and other schools. I was in your position last year and I remember really wishing I had someone to talk to that would just give me honest advice.

I wanted stories, not facts about numbers of students or how many award-winning professors there were.

Anyway, just thought I’d put out an offer to talk. My AIM screen name is shoeflydbm87, or you can PM me. Hope to hear from some of you!!!

If your interested…I’m in M&T (Wharton/Engineering), and last year some of the other schools I was choosing between were MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Harvard, and NYU. I was originally deferred early decision. Not gonna lie, I think I’ll always wonder “what if” but I can definitely say that I’m happy here.

Hurrah for the red and the blue =)

Hey.. can you post your stats from hs? I hope to apply to penn next year and I'm just trying to get a broader idea of the caliber of students they accept. What part of the application process do you think really made you stand out, essays, ec's, grades, sats..?

Thanks! :)

What eventually made you choose Penn over CMU? I'm in that position right now... Thanks!

Did you ever feel lost in the big undergrad scene? (Penn: approx 10,000 and Dartmouth: around 5,000) That's my major worry at Penn. It's not that I want to know every single body on campus. I just want it to be a familiar place; not a place with random faces and stuff...

Ooooh thanks for offering your help, I have many questions. (I was accepted ED so I am set for Penn --and thrilled!-- but I'm still wondering about...

How heavy is your course load? Do you feel like one can pursue a dual degree, work part time, study enough as to do well in class, and still have a life?

How well do the international students mix with the rest of the people?

If you live on campus, how often do you go out to Philly?

Regarding SEAS...

How strong is the Systems Eng department? Is the faculty friendly, helpful, do they actually speak English? haha...

Are the classes graded on a curve? Is the atmosphere really competitive or more laid back?

Last question: I'm planning to get a mac laptop. Any compatibility issues that you are aware of?

Sorry for so many questions... If you could answer at least a few that would mean a lot! :) Thanks in advance...
