Hey everyone,

I'm really torn between the FreshEx at Harrison, Freshman Leadership at Hill, and Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship at Ware. Could someone give me the pros and cons for each of those houses? I love the modern feel (+ my own bathroom!) of Harrison, the emphasis on community at Hill, and the fact that Ware is on the Quad -- I just can't decide which I'd want the most.

Thanks!

Oh! And I’m going into engineering, so I also love the close proximity Hill is to everything (engineering complex, athletic facilities, Van Pelt, music building, etcetc).

Just so you know, at Penn you say “in the Quad.” It’s not a traditional single square or rectangular green surrounded by buildings on 4 sides, but a large complex of around 40 connected buildings with several passages, greens, and courtyards:

[url=Home | Penn Residential Services]University of Pennsylvania Housing Services/url

So, if you peruse old threads on Penn housing, you’ll see that freshman res programs generally have no impact on your year. A very vast majority of them are inactive and applying to them is just a way to get the housing that you want.

That said, most freshman who end up in FreshEx are content but not as socially engaged as freshmen in Hill or the Quad. There’s definitely the occasional anti-social Quad hall but the high rise room configuration does exactly the opposite of promoting social interaction.

If the bathroom is a big deal for you and you want to make friends more easily than you would in Harrison, I’d say apply to the Quad over Hill. A majority of Quad rooms have sinks which basically allows for the same privacy as an individual bathroom. You’ll also have the opportunity to try apartment style living for the next three years of your Penn career.

Also, if you put Hill as your top choice, you will 100% be assigned to Hill.

Good luck :)
