Penn info

I’m relatively new to this board. I’m very interested in applying to Penn next year and is working on my essays now. unfortunately, i’m not able to visit the campus due to scheduling conflicts. So can you guys give me a brief introduction to what the campus is like(where people hang out usually and do people from different schools interact with each other? say SEAS and wharton) and how it can fulfill my interests. I’m a big sports guy and i run alot(on track team) and watch , I really like puzzles and board games(rubik’s cube, chinese chess, etc). I also like to sing(chorus bass, maybe i could join one of the choral groups at penn?) I also like to program stuff(any clubs at penn related to programming games and stuff?). Last but not least, I want to know if there are any research institutions at Penn so I could continue this research project i’m working on now.

Oh! There are the Penn relays!

qtip, but do you have to be recruited onto the track team? or can i be a walk on?

Uh, that question would be better directed at an actual Penn student...I'm going to guess that you have to be recruited.

I am pretty sure you can be a walk on.

anything else on the other things?

You will find people with similar interests easily. I love Rubik's Cubes and puzzles and programming, yet I will probably pursue a business-oriented route.

pimpthatthang, I think the best way to find answers about Penn's club is by looking for them on Penn's website and visit the college yourself. Many people don't know if some clubs exist; but the website lists every club officially registered at the university.

Also, for research, browse Penn's research website. You'll certainly find a lab that fit your interest since Penn itself is great for research. I think they post research positions here: http://165.123.9.110/Research/index.htm.

If you can't find the thing you want there, you'll still have the opportunity to write a proposal and try to get a research advisor so you can work on your project for credits. Just that you have to get in first.

About how ppl react to each other. I don't know but you'd better ask your interviewer or an alumnus. But so far everyone's nice as I've known and SEAS ppl don't see wharton ppl as different.
