i just got a call yesterday from a penn alum to interview. is it a good sign that i was chosen or is it done pretty commonly among ED applicants, cause i dont believe some others in my town were asked but i may be mistaken

also, should i bring a resume of activities for him?

unfortunately, getting an interview doesn't reflect on your chances for admission at all - it's a function of availability of alums in your area. they would offer interviews to all tens of thousands of applicants if they had the capacity.

mattwonder- i believe what you're saying, but do you think that there is any significance to the fact that at least 6 other people applied to Penn early (other than myself) from my school, and i know FOR A FACT taht tehre are a lot of alum in teh area, and i was teh only one to get an interview (some people even submitted their apps before me and didtn get one)

over the summer I was able to interview with Sara Harberson a reginal director- ( although not mine)
the interview was very cool- except for random questions like If you were a cookie what you be? lol
so yea just to be an echo- Be yourself, share your passions, and be knowledgable about the school

There's no significance to you getting an interview and those people not getting one. In your case, it's the luck of the draw. Don't try to interpret it to mean you have a better chance or they have less of one. You may have just been the first to turn in your first form or something like that. They haven't gotten anywhere near done reading apps yet to make those kinds of calls. Be glad you got an interview, but don't interpret as a judgment on your chances.

dude, keep in mind that not everybody gets an interview. this means that it hardly has ANY bearing on the admissions decision. they just feel obligated to do it because of overachieving students who couldn't possibly bear it if a university decides to eliminate their interview options.

i just had my interview today, it went half hour longer than the other two people interviewed. I'm really hoping it counts for more than people on here give it credit for :/

i had my interview today... when i first got out of it, i felt that i did really good b/c she told me that i'm really sweet lol. but gradually i'm starting to think that i didn't do so well... i think my knowledge of penn really impressed her and my "why penn" reason was good. we even started talking about our vacations to hawaii, and i had very strong responses to other questions. but i was really nervous at some points and i stuttered... and there was a really random question that i had trouble with and she asked me another question instead... maybe i'm being paranoid, but i'm just hoping i still have a chance at getting it >.<;; gosh i shouldn't have been so nervous.

also... would it help if EVERYONE there, excluding one guy and me, was applying to wharton? lol

Haha I had my interview today.. it was kinda good and casual, no "why" anything questions, the guy just gave me advice and we talked about each others lives and it was cool cause we both came back from the same sort of backgrounds. He was even comfortable and cussed lol, it was so much better than I thought it would be.

Well I had my interview last week. my alum was only 24 and it didnt feel like an interview. It felt more like meeting a new friend. We talked alot about Penn and college admissions. Dont stress, the entire experience was pretty chill and interviews count for very little. Oh, and I wore a pretty casual black cotton dress, you should look nice but save your ball gowns for some other school.

I just had my interview a couple hours ago, and my interviewer was one of the nicest ladies i have ever met. It was all really informal. I talked a lot about running and it turns out she was a runner too. She has "Pre" posters in her house.... so I lucked out a little there. Advice: Ask a lot about the interviewer because people like to talk about themselves a lot. Also drink your cofee slowly so your eyes don't water and make you look like a wimp.

^Lol wth, why would drinking coffee make your eyes water? I would slow down my coffee drinking just because otherwise I’d look like a major caffeine druggie. I drink coffee like water.

For those who have done a Columbia interview as well: which is more formal? Because I found Columbia to be kind of intimidating. The woman was very serious, and asked somewhat difficult questions - like she asked about current events “that have influenced me” and such. Then, when I talked about an issue, she wanted to know if there was a particular bill on the topic. I was like…uhhhh, I think so…haha. Do I need to brush up on my current events for the UPenn interview?
