i was wondering…i know penn is considered the party ivy but how often would you guys say people actually do go out, get drunk, and go to a party…are we talking like four times a month (every saturday night), eight times a month (every friday and saturday night), do people ever party and get drunk on thursday/sunday nights too? i really have no conception of how often and i was wondering to try to get a feel for the social life on campus…im talking about the average penn student who drinks…not the hermit who lives in the library and is antisocial and not the alcoholic who actually is the one organizing the parties but rather the average penn student

thursday is a pretty common night to party, sunday isn't. I'd say that on average, most penn students party around 2 nights a weekend, maybe just 1 night if midterms/finals etc coming up.

umm...I thought Dartmouth was the party ivy...wasn't there a college party movie based on Dartmouth?

animal house......a classic.

i need to get off dartmouth's waitlist

Most people party at least one night, but some do party on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Others just on Friday and Saturday. Some start on Wednesday!

The movie was based on Dartmouth because of its distance and seclusion from other Ivies. It was showing how Ivy boys would go all the way to seven sister schools for some love.

Yes they partied, but no, its not the party ivy.

Dartmouth, Penn, and Princeton all party pretty well.

"The movie was based on Dartmouth because of its distance and seclusion from other Ivies."

No, the movie was based on Dartmouth because that's where the writer(s) went to university.

the Penn weekend usually begins on Thursday (this is a big general thing, obviously depending on workloads this varies). Thursday is usually a bigger club night than the rest of the weekend, as you'll see tons of people dressed up leaving the Quad and hailing cabs. However, there are ocassional parties on Thursday night too.

Friday isn't a HUGE party night. The fraternities/houses that partied on Thursday aren't going to have another one Friday, and also, houses and frats are saving up cash and time for Saturday night parties. However, if you go around you'll find parties.

Saturday is the big party night. Period.

Note: This is all reference to partying/drinking OUTSIDE of the dorms. Theoretically, any night can be a fun party type night with the people in your hall. I've had nights where I drank on a Tuesday or something, because as long as you've got friends and some beer, there's always the potential to have a fun night.

Another Note: This is all alcohol-related. There is of course tons of stuff to do sans alcohol.... but eh, beer is good.

Well, according to Ben Franklin,

"Beer is constant proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

Good old Uncle Ben =]

By the way, I'm just sharing it because I think it's hilarious. But I know plenty of kids at Penn who have a great time without alcohol in their lives.

Penn IS the Party Ivy. Come see for yourself. There's no denying it.

where do people actually have parties? besides actually being in frats or sorierieties or clubs/bars, do people have parties just like out on the street outside the dorms, or inside the dorms on dorm floors etc.? where do these parties actually take place?

In rooms, halls, fraternities, off-campus apartments and houses, and downtown at clubs. The only time we have parties outside is a) when it is registered, b) spring fling.

Hint: Follow the drunk kids.

haha got it

ill keep that in mind two years from now when im hopefully at penn partying it up wit u

So will you still enjoy any of these parties if you're a non-drinker? Because it seems like the college definition of party is beer...and..more beer.

in my opinion, any situation is what u make out of it, if u have a good attitude and want to have fun, ull find fun in teh situation whether u are drinking or not and even if ur pessimistic, watching drunk people make fools of themselves is entertaining to everyone always regarldess

god yes :D

i got drunk on sat night and a couple of my friend that were driving enjoyed my company...a lot...lol...but i was not my typical self

if you don’t drink and don’t want to be in a dorm where there is risk of drunk ppl throwing up on you anytime you leave your room, or of loud music all night, which dorm should you go to? Is there anywhere on the quad like this?

haha probably not unless you get a loner of a roommate :)
