I’m filling out the Common App, and University of Pennsylvania gives an option to fill out information about your LGBTQIA status.
Is it worth filling out if I’m a cisgender female, use she/her pronouns, and only consider myself a straight ally? They give an option for being an ally, but I’m not sure if this survey is really worth filling in it’s intended more for the LGBT+ community…
Penn uses that info to help recruit LGBT students whom they otherwise want to admit. For them, it’s market research and once an offer of admission is given, they can also send relevant outreach from their own LGBT orgs to that potential student.
Identifying as LGBT in and of itself, won’t help anyone get a Penn offer. Again, it’s market research by Penn for students they want to persuade to matriculate.
