fo shoa, but beating nerdy Ivy Leagures is probably different than playin real athletes that have muscles and skill and have their teams in video games

As proud as I am for my Quakers, I'm sure we will be embarassed in the first round again, just like last year. As the brackets stand right now (as reported by ESPN), we will play Texas in the first round...Boy, I have a tough choice between my home state and my school...hmmmm...

i can take them, i'll school rondo, shut down reddick, mess up shelden, and post up (ansbrough?). then i'll kick some nerd azz on NCAA March Madness 2006 (C). bring me the geekiest computer nerds in all the land!

penn usually gets an 11, 12, or 13. why so low this year? besides, if you get a 12 seed, thats like a 2/5 chance of moving on, and a 1/10 chance of getting to the top 8, so yeah...go penn for the upset of....idk. if they draw the gators, tho, life is good. nobody (NOBODY) can drop the ball in the NCAA's like billy's wussies

Penn gets the 14th slot because of the other teams' records. And I make a correction...ESPN has the their bracket that Penn is playing UCLA in the first round.

I am going to start a t-shirt company and start to mass product PENN 06 NCAA Champ shirts......

I will make a boatload of cash...

don't forget about the Washington Huskies... They have won eight in a row and are peaking at the right time. Plus you can't forget about Brandon Roy. He's one of the best players in the country and is going to be a lottery pick.

Two letters-B C

I'm pretty sure that Penn is in the video games (they put all D-1 in there), and this year Penn only lost to Duke by 13 at Cameron and Nova by 7 at the Palestra, so it's not like we're that far away from the big boys. And Penn has been to the Final Four, but now where college athletics is we cannot compete with the big conference schools as we cannot offer scholarships.

Penn's RPI problem is from the largely from the fact that the league sucks right now- when Princeton is the number two team in the league, you know there are issues. We were at least number 35 in the RPI at one point in the year before league play began. Penn also has a problem of playing to the level of the opponent. And what has happened recently is that teams have figured out how to play us. Zones, especially the 2-3, are our achilles heel.

An Ivy League hasn't won since 1937.

Penn-Princeton tonight. Go Quakers!!!

btw Penn lost to Columbia. kind of ridiculous, i know. we beat them by 40 points in the first game we played against them, then i think we took the next game easy, like not wasting our best players against them, and somehow lost by like 2 or 3.

No, Ibby, Zoller, and the usual lineup was in for that game. Our problem main was the 2-3 zone, we've been struggling against it all season. Danley and Zoller looked lost in the zone, and couldn't penetrate or post up like they've usually been able to do. Thus, a lot of bad shots, bad passes and turnovers. This neutralized our entire frontcourt (and most of the team for that matter), neutralizing a 20+ game by Jaaber. Also the officiating stunk, and further prevented Penn from doing anything (pretty much any time Penn got a rebound it was a reach in, when Penn drove to the hoop it would be a charge or travel...). Also, Zoller was called for a ticky-tacky if not phantom charge with the game tied with 20 seconds left, allowing Columbia to get the game winning bucket. Officiating hurt, but Penn should not have even been in a position to be affected by it.

Also, the first go through, we blew out every Ivy opponent. Then the loss to Columbia, a game that looked like deja-vu the next night against Cornell (thankfully Penn pulled it off), OT wins against Harvard and Brown, 2 point win over Yale that came down to a desperation shot by the Elis, and an OT loss to Princeton. It wasn't a complete fluke against Columbia, though it was definitely the low point of the season.

The ESPN bracket currently has Penn going to Dayton to play Illinois, I believe. At least we're in, at least we're in...

I believe that Penn is playing Texas in the first round, as they are seeded 15, but what would I know, I'm in Australia and don't follow the NCAA much.

On a side note, I was jsut wondering, how does the Penn bball side differ to Princetons or Harvards. Is it athleticism, coaching, more fundamentally sound players, or what?

You are right, we are going to play Texas in Dallas, the part about Dayton was what ESPN Bracketology predicted for Penn before selection Sunday rolled around.

Penn and Princeton play different styles. Princeton runs the Princeton offense (started by Pete Carril at Princeton), which is predciated on backdoor cuts and wearing the other team down by using the entire shot clock. They are lacking in talent, though Scott (their coach) has done a good job in the latter part of the season making up for that (compare the Monmouth and Carnege Mellon games to getting second in the leauge). I'm not exactly sure what is up with Harvard and why they have never won the Ancient Eight. I do know that Penn has the most talent, but schematic things like Harvard's 1-3-1 zone can frustrate us. Maybe someone who knows even more about basketball can add more.
