Penn Medicine Summer Program

Hey guys, I’m interested in applying for the Penn Medicine Summer Program for High School students (link to info page: http://www.jkcp.com/program/penn-medicine-summer-program-for-high-school-students.php ), so does anyone know/ have any insight on this program.
Questions:

  1. Is this a fairly competitive program? I don’t want to have to pay $100 right off the bat for application fee yet have a high chance of getting rejected later.
  2. If you attended, was this a good experience? Any pros or cons?
  3. Anything else you would like to add? Like tips or advice?

Thanks!

did you end up attending the program ? I’m looking into applying into it myself and any additional information would be nice

Same. Thinking of applying. Would love to hear feedback.

Please know that JKCP is a for profit company that rents facilities and temporarily hires Penn faculty for these programs. They are LOCATED at Penn but have no official endorsement by the university (and if one eventually applies to Penn for undergrad, this is no additional benefit). That being said, many programs like these are fun and students learn a ton. There are many programs like this all across the country – I have no specific info on the JKCP program though. Good luck!

hey - I attended the program the summer beforehand my junior year:

  1. i took on the application eager to get started with colleges, so seeing as the jkcp app is a rather thorough one, i filled it out like i would a commonapp. that being said, the program had a wide range of students, many – but certainly not all – students were high achieving or had some sort of hook. that being said, most students who would seek out this sort of program, including you, are that impressive.
  2. yeah, it was a great program, hmu with more specific questions but it was a wide degree of students, activities, and experiences that certainly made an impact on my interest in medicine and exposure to a p diverse environment.
  3. i didn’t know what to expect, but it’s a social, very packed schedule with sampling of med school lectures, labs, and simulations

BY FAR - the highlight was the hands on exploring 10 cadavers (all highlighting a different portion of the body)

hope this helped !!

Thanks for the insight. Sounds like you learned a lot. How many students were in the program all together?
