Right now I have 11 schools im applying to. I don't want to apply to too many schools and the last spot (in no way am I implying that these are safety schools) has come down to Penn or Tufts. Based on my research, I think Tuft's size and environment will suit me better. I have not visited Tufts or Penn. I have visited several parts of Philly, which I liked, but i have not visited Penn. Both are great schools, but i don't have time to visit them right now. SHould I just apply to both? Is 13 schools too much? If i have to make a choice it comes down to academics:

~I'm applying as undecided. Which school would be better for someone entering in as undecided.

*I'm also posting in the Tufts forum so I can get a balance of opinions. And on a side note I really enjoyed the questions posted on both Penn and Tuft's supplements. I think that both their prompts would be fun to write about/ do, and if this is any indication of the type of education I'll recieve at either of these places, then that makes my decision even harder.

Both! Penn and Tufts are my two top schools–and I’m apply undecided.

What other schools are you looking at? Maybe you should scratch one or two of them and keep both Penn and Tufts on the list.

they’re my top two schools too! which is odd because they’re both so different. I know you’re undecided, but do you know approximately what you’re interested in? Tufts is really geared towards IR a lot more, whereas I think Penn has a better balance due to its larger size.

I’m 90% i don’t want to do anything with politics and international relations… so i guess Penn makes more sense

firstly, congrats for looking past presrige or rankings in your decisions; it is a pretty hard call to make considering you havent visited either. For me, fit is top on my list of things a school must have - even on par with academics because think of it like this as an example: what good is Yale if you hate living in new haven or Colymbia if you abhor the city? you’re stuck there for four years (nothing against yalies orvcolumbia or anything)

As an undecided i would choosePenn because it is a huge school with strengths across the board so you know you will get top-notch learning in whatever major you do choose

edit: sorry for errors, typing is a drag on my phone

It’s not an iPhone, is it? My iPhone corrects things like Coly/umbia. It’s a smart little phone you know ;)

Penn and Tufts are your last thoughts? What does your initial list look like?? and who made the first dozen cut??

Both Penn and Tufts are great schools but are pretty different. Just be sure you want to actually attend them before applying, otherwise don’t waste your time, unless it would feel better to say you turned down x number of schools, and chose magnificent school #1.

On a happiness scale, I have heard that Tufts students are pretty serious. And Penn students, while they too are very competetive and study their brains out tend to know how to unwind. You really need to identify what’s important to you. Philly is great, but being up the road from both Cambridge and Boston rocks as well. Weather is a wee bit milder in Philly [fall lasts longer and spring comes sooner, not by much, but it’s well appreciated in the northeast].
Best of luck.
