Penn Placement Exams

Is any incoming freshmen here taking placement exams?

I’ll be taking both the Chem exams (since it’s required essentially if you have AP Chem credit) and at least one Bio exam. I was wondering if anyone who has taken them or is familiar with them could share some info about its format and difficulty, compared to the College Board AP. Thanks.

i guess i'm taking the chem one too, i'm a transfer student and i got a 4 on ap chem so my old school gave me credit for it on my transcript. does this mean penn won't give me credit because it isn't a 5? and i think i'm only doing the first chem placement exam if i have to because engineering students only need one semester.

The AP score will give you 1 c.u. as a "free elective" but it won't waver you out of Chem 101 or 102 unless you "pass" (for the lack of a different term) their exams. You can get up to 2 credits by their department exams.

Some engineering cirricula require both chem 101 and 102.

I'm also taking the Chem placement test. What I didnt get was when you are registering for the placement test it asks if you want to take Chem 101 or Chem 102 test, or you could take both! I just selected both of them! I'm going to bomb them! I did well on the IB Chem HL exam, but it's not like I can remember much of anything. My brain when it comes to all that info for the IB is locked up, maybe even non-exsistent anymore!
Is there a Bio placement test? It's not listed on the NSO website. I wasn't under the impression that for Bio a placement test had to take, i thought you could just take Bio 121/122(I think those are the course numbers) if you have the 5 in AP or the 6/7 in the IB exam?! Correct me if I'm wrong!

so an ap chem grade of 4 that gave credit at a previous university will give me a free elective 1 c.u. at penn? what about an ap score of 4 on government and english lit that i got credit for at my previous university? can i still get credit for this score even though it isn't the 5 that penn requires for freshmen?

and what is a free elective? can i use it toward my diploma?

thanks!

does anyone have the link to the site where we sign up for placement exams?

thanks!

yeah, does anyone know where to sign up for placement tests?

does anyone know if they have a timetable of when placement tests are?

the timetable for the placement tests are on the NSO website! Heres the exact url
<a href="http://www.upenn.edu/nso/2005/events/placement.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.upenn.edu/nso/2005/events/placement.html</a></p>

And to register for the chem placement test, go to:
<a href="http://www.sas.upenn.edu/chem/ugrad/placement.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.sas.upenn.edu/chem/ugrad/placement.html</a></p>

thank you!

so what if you signed up for both chem 101 and 102 exams? they're both at the same time

I signed up for both of them!! I guess we'll may have to wait to find out!!

I believe there's a placement exam for Chem 102 offered in the spring...double check on that tho

I've heard that the Penn placement exams are incredibly difficult. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up on that one!
