I just checked my Penn Portal which used to list all my application materials that they received. Now it says "The Undergraduate Admissions Office has closed the Early Decision cycle, therefore you are no longer able to review the status of your application materials."

Could this mean they have already reviewed my application and decided upon my status? Hmm? Does anyone else's Penn Portal show this?

See my comment in “when when when”.

I think a decision has been made, they are just not posting until December 10 at 3 PM! Who else isn’t going to school? I can not imagine being on the bus on my way home just knowing that my decision is posted! I am very nervous- where is everyone else applying? What are everyone’s second and third choices? Good luck to all!

Hey UPennhopeful216,
I applied to UPenn, NYU, UMIami, Drexel (accepted), Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Northwestern, Brandeis, and University of Florida.

Good luck to you as well. Fortunately, I won’t be in school on Friday either. I have a theater competition and I am performing at the same time admissions come out. I know for a fact that I will not be checking on my phone, I will wait until I get home, even if it’s 7:00 pm, lock my door, prepare, and click login.

“We will be posting decisions for Early Decision applicants online on Friday, December 10th, 2010 at 3 p.m. E.S.T. When you log in to your MyPenn Applicant Portal you will be automatically taken to the Decision site (http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/decisions/). The Decision site uses the same UserName and Password as the MyPenn Applicant Portal. The Undergraduate Admissions Office has closed the Early Decision cycle, therefore Early Decision applicants are no longer able to review the status of their application materials.”

Oh no! I have to go to the lab to work more on my genetics research that day, but I do not think I will be going, because it is from 2:00 PM-8:00 PM and is two hours away! I totally understand your “not checking the phone” policy, it’s just too shady. Good luck, I’m applying to NYU, Miami, and Northwestern as well. Congrats on Drexel!

Wow! That’s awesome! Do you live in South Florida as well? And that’s a wonderful selection! :)

No, I’m from New Jersey. Yeah, I’m applying to those schools and many others- 14 total- if I don’t get into Penn! I really hope I get in, the stress is getting so unbearable!

Miami is an amazing place. You get the prestige of the University as well as the social scene of South Beach. It’s totally different from schools in the Northeast though. Find me on facebook if you want to further this discussion. I’d like to know where else you applied, I just feel that speaking to others in my shoes relieves some of the pressure! Search Jordan M. Cohen.

Oh noooo! Haha, I had my interview on Wednesday… The alumnus interviewer didn’t get the ED applier list until like a week ago, so we had our interview yesterday. Does this mean my interview won’t be taken into account? I told him some important information that didn’t come across my Common App, and it MIGHT make or break my admission, I have no clue. I feel like it does though =[

I just did- and yeah, my parents went to UMiami so I have been there a million times, it’s awesome!

Considering that Wednesday was yesterday, and the admissions committee closed today…I doubt that your interviewer wrote the essay in 20 minutes sent it over with enough time for an admissions committee to sit down and discuss you. But I’m just another student like you, what do I know?

My interviewer said he doesn’t even think they pay a lot of attention to the interview- don’t worry about it! Good luck!

It’s considered and can be very beneficial. But it definitely won’t hurt if you didn’t have one. My interviewer said that they choose at random who they will interview. Don’t worry, be positive! Everything will be fine.

Did you guys apply to Wharton or the College of Arts and Sciences?

The College of Arts and Sciences, Health & Societies / Pre-med.

wofbharatj, if you really are one of the rare ‘on the fence’ applicant such that an interview could ‘make or break’ you, the adcoms probably will go back within the next week to evaluate you again with the interview report. But, like others have noted, the fact that they closed the decision cycle without having read all the interviews probably just means that interviews were not that important in the first place.

What is unsettling for me, though, is that it’s only been about, what, 2 weeks (?) since we were all notified of our application statuses, and now they have already reached a decision on four thousand some applications! Either they truly worked their behinds off or they started reviewing before the PennPortal was updated.

There’s about 5-10 admission officers that read 60-100 a day! At most that is 1000 apps a day. But that’s maximum, minimum is 300 apps reviewed a day which left them 13 days. Sounds just about right to me.

My Penn Portal shows the same message, Jordan.
Bracing myself for the longest week ever ever ever.

Best of luck to all of you. :)

Just got an email from Penn as well! This is crazy!
