does penn prepare you well for the mcat? any pre med penn students here want to share their experiences? any advice would be appreciated!

I’m not premed, but I am majoring in biochem, so I end up in all the same classes with them. My sense is that any good school should equally prepare you for the MCAT, which tests a great deal of biology, some chemistry and a very cursory overview of physics. Penn has a separate, pre-med only physics course for this purpose. Orgo and orgo lab are the hardest courses the premeds take: they are a lot of work but are entirely manageable. If you get a bit ahead of the pack, some students take courses in the medical school during their senior year.

There are a ton of premeds here, so you certainly won’t be alone.

oh coool
do you recommend majoring in biochem or bioengineering? ive heard both are good for premed

Most premeds seem to major in biology, but there are also a number of bioengineers who want to be doctors. Biochemistry is bit hardcore compared with what is required for premed (physical chemistry, extra math, etc), but some people do that too. If that interests you, you might want to check out the Vagelos program:

[Vagelos Scholars Program in Molecular Life Sciences](Vagelos Molecular Life Sciences Program – Penn Arts & Sciences)

Many premeds major in BBB (Biological Bassis of Behavior). It is a bit more lax than bio and accepts more premed courses towards your major requirements. Penn is a great place for premed. Most other top schools are great too. Penn provides you with great opportunities as a premed for advising, research (very easy to start working at a lab freshman year), and clinical experience (HUP and CHOP have a lot of premed volunteers).

thanks for the info.
how competitive is the vagelos scholars program?
i also assuming by doing that, the workload will be much more difficult, correct? i have no problem about the workload, i just want to know what im getting myself into beforehand loll.

bbb sounds very nice as well. so many choicesss. im also considerign the hbhs in cornells human ecology. do you know what sounds liek the best choice?
