What is it like for a premed student at Penn? How competetive are the students in the program?

This could be a difference maker in my top choice selection.

It's not really a specific program...you just take the classes. And they're not as dumb as Wharton students.

i would have to surmise premed people are kind of competitive. While many people are done after ugrad, premeds have to use their gpa to get into med school

It's really not that competitive, in my experience. I'm a junior, and I'm premed, and I've had really nothing but positive experiences fulfilling all of the requirements. Most of the science professors are pretty good (except for maybe those in the chem department), and the students are not cut-throat at all. Generally everybody is willing to help out a peer if they don't understand a concept, chapter, etc... or to lend them their notes if they miss a class, fell asleep, etc. I've heard of schools where the premeds will spill cups of coffee on other people's notes, ask them to copy their notes and then throw them away, etc. Penn is NOT like that.

I've also met some of my very best friends through just taking lots of classes together. This year we had physics and bio back to back all year, and making it from DRL to Leidy in 10 minutes is NOT easy... basically every single person that had those classes together bonded this year on our sprints across campus.
