If I was accepted ED to Penn, is it worth it to go to the Penn Preview Day? I do not live close to Penn (I live on the West Coast). Is there anything truly special about the Penn Preview Day or will we get all that information anyways during NSO?

Is Penn Preview Day for all RD students also? When is it?

i’m pretty sure penn preview day is MOSTLY for regular decision applicants. this is why i was wondering whether it’s worth it for me to go or not. I’m pretty sure penn preview day is there because they want to convince all of the Regular Decision applicants that they accepted to come to Penn, instead of going to another college! They are April 7, 8, 11, 14, 15 and 18.

Can someone provide insight onto what actually happens at Penn Preview Day (please don’t copy and paste what’s on their website because it is very vague)? Is it worth it?

Yeah I think that’s the case for Penn Preview Days; they are mostly for the RD kids.

But anyways…from what I remember from when I attended, there was a reception at Irvine auditorium before an assembly…the basic fare about the school and such…

Then I think we went off on a housing tour. This is probably the thing that is of most use to ED kids. We were shown a Quad Room, a Stouffer Room, and…King’s court. It was okay, but I wish we had seen more places. I think there was some time to visit other places on campus (like for people interested in LGBT house or Kelly Writer’s House) and I also talked to my advisor (I was in Vagelos so I’m not sure if this is the case for everyone). I forget what else happened on that day though…I would say it wasn’t extremely helpful in making my decision to come to Penn but it was nice to see the school.

Are we allowed to go see other college houses that are not on the tour, like to go inside them and stuff, I want to see the various options I have before making that decision.

Unless you know current students…then no. The college houses you get to see are random (we only got to see three - Fisher, KCECH, Stouffer – other people saw different combinations of houses).

I think you could arrange for an overnight stay (I don’t think they’re offered during Penn Previews, but they are offered other times during the year)? That way, your host could bring you to all the houses and you could see all the room types.

Apparently the Preview Days are going to be hella better this year somehow?

Also, next year’s accepted applicants will have an overnight option.

My S was admitted ED so he is definitely going to attend, but we are attending Penn Preview Day. He would like to see the housing and it will hopefully give him a chance to get a general sense of the campus. I’m hoping it will also help his sister with the transition of having her big brother 6 hrs away. We plan to attend 4/18…head down Sunday morning…do the preview Monday…see some cheesy tourist attractions or see a Philly’s game…then head to Amish country Tuesday.

I know a few ED people that are doing that, but I still haven’t received convincing evidence as to what are the benefits of going? Especially if you are from California. All the housing specs can be seen online. I understand the “general sense of the campus” part, but since we are already definitely going there, would it make any difference whatsoever? Plus, we have many years there to explore and there is always NSO. I dont see what good a one day event will have, especially after spending so much money. But I’m still considering it. I want to see what the real advantage is of going though.

Sounds like its not for you.

It’s a good way to get out of school :D

That’s the way I saw it. You also get a cool bag and a bunch of brochures. Some of the info sessions are neat too, I went to the one at CURF.

^What info sessions are usually available? I’m going to be flying in by myself and staying with current students…just wanna get a feel for what I should be looking forward to :)

if i’m already going to the scholar’s preview thing april 12-14, is it still worth it to go to a preview day? does anybody know what the differences are between the two? i would assume its not necessary to go to both…

One of the days for scholar’s preview is a Penn Preview day (at least that’s how it has been for years). If that has changed with the new format they have this year, then no, it is definitely not necessary to go to both.

What is this scholar’s preview? The website only had information about the regular Penn Preview days.
